Football nerds: What is the single game rushing record for a white running back?

I found this list so far:

1. 296 yards – Adrian Peterson, MIN vs S.D. – 30 carries – 3 TDs
2. 295 yards – Jamal Lewis, BAL vs CLE – 30 carries – 2 TDs
3. 278 yards – Corey Dillon, CIN vs DEN – 22 carries – 2 TDs
4. 275 yards – Walter Payton, CHI vs MIN – 40 carries – 1 TDs
5. 273 yards – O.J. Simpson, BUF vs DET – 29 carries – 2TDs

The O.J. game was Thanksgiving, 1976. But this doesn’t mean the record for a white dude was necessarily before that date. It just means no white man ever got 273 yds after 1976.

Actually I stated that incorrectly. It means no white man has ever got 273 yds, or he’d be on that list. So we do have to go back to the 70s.

OK, I found it. It was Billy Cannon, of the Houston Oilers, on Dec. 10, 1961. He rushed for 216 yds against the New York Titans. He’s ranked 46th on the list of single-game rushers.

I asked a question once as to why there didn’t seem to be any black competitors in swimming events at the Olympics. Then I went away to research the heck out of my own question, and when I came back with an arm load of findings (I think there have only been 1 or 2 blacks who have won an Olympic swimming event in the modern history of the Olympics) a bloody race riot had broken out on my thread, and I had to call in the SWAT Auggie team.

I’m sure it all comes down to differing body structures and mass and density inherent in different races AND WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT THAT????

Perhaps this is a safe, unseen corner of the internet in which we can discuss this. I’ll get back to this at some point if I remember.

OK, so one of my unsubstantiated, unresearched hypotheses about why blacks are better at sports is simply natural selection from slave days. They were subjected to such harsh and brutal working conditions, that only the very strong and healthy survived and had fit young. Eventually you got some gene lines of very tough people.

I don’t know if that’s true, but I play a lot of sports. I can’t tell you how many times a black guy was sort of jogging along while I was in full sprint, not to mention some of the ridiculously athletic moves they’ve done to me. I know this sounds like stereotyping, but usually when someone turns out to be incredibly fast or athletic, guess what, it was a black guy again.
