Have you ever had the feeling that you have seen or experienced something that no one has ever seen or experienced before, or ever will again?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30960points) November 9th, 2010

Is this possible? Can one person have an experience that no other person has ever, or will ever have?

If you have, can it be shared in any way?

Only in the particulars, such as this person doing something – that millions and millions of others have done, but not this person at this time, and never again.

It seems to only happen amongst the community of people who believe in pseudoscience and religion to a fundamental extent.

Every one of your experiences is exclusive and original to you. No, it cannot be shared. What it is like to be me is incommunicable. Likewise with you.

Of course. Think back to when you were a teenager. Everything you did was unique. Heck, you were pretty sure you invented sex! Remember?

Yep. What the inside of my eyelids look like from here.

I never though this about any of my experiences.

I saw a quote once that was something like, “Everything that happens, happens precisely right now, and only happens to me.” I can’t remember the line or where it’s from! But the point is that everyone’s experiences are unique.

This summer I went to the beach with two friends. It was late afternoon and we’re on the east coast so the sun is setting behind us. It was a really deserted stretch of beach on an island that wasn’t crowded to begin with. There was a stiff wind and we were drinking beers, and the wind kept making ghostly noises when it blew across the mouth of the beer bottles.

I kept noticing how the sun setting behind you on the beach created these really unique colors. The sand was this deep bronzed gold, and the sea foam when it caught the sunlight was bright saffron yellow. The sea foam in the shadows was periwinkle and the water itself was mossy green.

My friends probably noticed different things about the same beach. One of them was swimming far out in the water for the first time during the vacation, just getting churned around by the waves and grinning. The other one kept noticing this little bird that was running around just ahead of the water. We were all there, but each had a unique experience.

Yeah, kinda. I was humping the wife one time, she had a cold….bless. Anyway on the cusp of orgasm she sneezed & snot flew across the room. Ewwww, I said, as I politely finished my strokes. Kind of put me off but I soldiered on XD

Didn’t the Backstreet Boys sing: “Am I original? Am I the only one? Am I sexual?”.
