How do I fight the itch during No-Shave November?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) November 9th, 2010

I’m currently participating in No-Shave November. Usually, I succumb to the itch and shave my face after about a week and a half, and it’s now coming to about that time. What do you suggest for fighting the itch?

And don’t suggest shaving. I’m not giving up.

Keep your skin clean and dry and it will get better over time.

When I restart my beard after shaving it usually takes 3–6 weeks for the itching to drop to a tolerable level. There is usually only one really bad week. Brush the beard daily, moisturize, try some Gold Bond medicated powder.

I’ve got a beard that’s almost a year old now and I just had to power through those first few weeks. After about three weeks, my let up substantially. Just power through. Don’t give up. Beards are the manliest you can have besides testicles.

See some ideas here.

I still think one should simply man up.

Get some leave in conditioner and rub it all in the beard and face around the hair. The Paul Mitchell stuff worked for me.

You could try some cortizone cream over the counter. Also the anti-itch spray for mosquito bites by Bendryl has a topical something init to stop itch. It will depend how thick your beard is I guess, because it will be difficult to get it onto your skin if it is already fairly thick and long.
