Any scrumptious crock pot recipes that you'd care to share with the rest of the class?

Thank god for a question that at least gets me going a little! I love ham, cabbage, and potatoes in the crock pot. Throw in however much of any of the ingredients you like and a little water.

@Adirondackwannabe Is the ham already cooked before you put it in? How long does it cook for?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

No. Just throw it in and cook for as long as you like. You can start the ham and the cabbage first, and throw the potatoes in after a few hours. Then let it go until the spuds are done to your liking.

Here is a list of many crock pot recipes. There are lots and lots of ideas here. Enjoy :)

I made this recipe for a party: vegetarian cassoulet. I sauteed some chicken/garlic sausage and served it on the side as an add-in for people who weren’t vegetarian. The cassoulet was good but after it sat in the pot, with the pot on “keep warm,” for the duration of the party, the beans got very mushy. I would make it again, but wouldn’t keep it heated after it’s finished because the beans seem to keep soaking up the liquid.

Here is one for chicken tikka masala made in a crock pot.

Please, all. Include the size of your slow cooker. I have a 3.5 qt Kalorik which is temperamental, unpredictable and prone to volcanic spewing.

I love to roast a whole chicken in a bit of broth and loaded with celery stalks with leaves, potatoes and carrots. Yummy!

I like making applesauce in the crock pot. Just peel, core, and dice 4–5 apples, throw in ¾ cup of water, ¼ cup white or brown sugar, and sprinkle some cinnamon on top, cover it, and let it cook for a few hours. It’ll make the house smell great. You can use high or low and change the time depending on if you want it more or less cooked. If you leave it in a long time it will become mushy like the applesauce you’d buy at the grocery store. (this would be for a small crock pot)

P.S. Pears can also work instead of or with the apples.

How about a fabulous (I can say that because it isn’t mine – I was just lucky enough to find it) recipe for candy? It is so so so so good!!

It makes a ton, so it is great for Christmas gifts.

Crock pot candy
16 oz. dry roasted salted peanuts
16 oz. unsalted dry roasted peanuts
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate bits
4 oz. German chocolate bar
32 oz. white almond bark

Put peanuts in bottom of crock pot; add other ingredients. Cook on low setting for 1½ to 2 hours, stirring well once or twice after the chocolates have melted. Place rounded spoonfuls onto wax paper and allow to cool.

@Supacase Oh, hell yeah!

@Adirondackwannabe so when you buy the ham in the market does it say “ham cut” or what is that cut of pork called? I’ve never made a ham, just buy it already made as cold cuts, or Honey Baked Ham.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@JLeslie I use part of a ham, say a two to four pound piece. A whole ham is too big for just two of us. Most of the meat sections have various sizes of hams. It’s really easy to work with ham. Just cook in water like my recipe or just bake it.

Throw in a chopped onion, several chopped tomatoes, some sliced carrots and celery, a couple of minced garlic cloves and ½ cup of red wine. Rub a Pork Shoulder roast with a mix of rosemary, oregano, and paprika. Place in slow cooker/crockpot for 6 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees.

Serve over steamed slices of squash/zuccini and corn

Here’s a recipe for a vegetarian red bean Jamaican stew with coconut milk here

And here’s one for a chicken and sweet potato stew here

And here’s one for sweet potato (or butternut squash) chili here

And here’s one for vegetarian chili (to which you can add a bag of Morningstar Farms meal starters “fake ground beef” if you like during the last half hour of cooking like this) here

@Kardamom: Just what I have been looking for. Thank you.
