What do these recurring dreams mean?

Asked by OwlofHappiness (406points) November 13th, 2010

I had nightmares about serial killers 2 days in a row. The details of dreams were pretty different.

In the first dream, I was taking a guided hike in the woods at night, and the group got attacked by a killer, who used his victims to feed to this fat guy who sat in stuff that looked like oatmeal. The fat guy ended up dead, and no other people were killed, but his “henchman,” who fed him, escaped.

In the second dream, my sister and I were running down what seemed like endless flights of stairs through a creepy old house from this crazy person who turned people into dolls, taxidermy animals, and automatons. He had them all set up on the side of the stairs, and they grabbed at us as we ran down. We escaped several times, but somehow always ended up back in the house. I woke up before I found out what happened.

After those dreams, my nights returned to normal and my dreams were like usual. Nothing is going on in my life that would make me have nightmares, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas I might not have thought of that would make me dream of serial killers. Thanks!

Become a horror writer! I get my best inspiration for stories from dreams like that :-)

@HungryGuy I do occasionally try to write stories I get from dreams, but I never have the drive to finish what I start. :)

You can’t just forget your life is used for the convience of others once you’ve realised that. And you certainly can’t expect it to just go away. Express yourself before you become the axemurdering maniac. (yeah, I realise you didn’t mention that one but it’s my go-to serial killer)

If the above does not apply disregard this message.

You need to stop watching the Saw movies! Heh!

OwlofHappiness's avatar

@CaptainHarley Well, that’s the weird part! I hadn’t watched any horror movies or read horror novels recently. And nothing is going on in my life that that would make me nervous or scared. The nightmares were completely out of the blue.

I was joking. Sorry. Our subconscious play some weird games with us sometimes. Your dreams may be nothing more than an indication you’ve been eating too many bon-bons! : )

They don’t mean anything. Just random thought processes manifesting in your dreams. Truly don’t amount to a hill of beans.

@ucme Yeah because stuff just happens randomly, great explanation.
Dreams might not make any sense, but they might, and neither can be disproven. Neither can either be qualified as random. Random is a fiction, and you just offered it as a real life explanation. My head is spinning.

Headsplode.

Are you paranoid about something? Have you had dreams like this before? What did you eat or drink the nights before? There’s a lot to consider but here’s a link.

Here is the way I look at dreams. Our bodies go into some sort of state of rest while the mind still stays active. The brain is filled with data about things that we’ve experienced, read, heard or seen. This data gets tossed around and jumbled. It only gets recalled during those times of wakening. I’ve had different reoccurring dreams throughout life that can easily be explained away, despite the myriad of memories that get thrown together to create it.

You are aware of the term ‘serial killer’, so you must know something about them. If you want to interpret your own dreams, just break it down and don’t consider it actually having any meaning.

It means you have a kind of interior war going on. A part of your mind is kind of getting angry and vicious. It’s not something you really like about yourself. Perhaps it is devious, and perhaps it is involved in doing something unethical.

Your good self and it’s allies, perhaps sensible self or whatever, is trying to get away from the influence of this part you are ashamed of. You’re being hurt by this inner self, and yet you aren’t really aware of it.

I’d say you might have something going on at school or work where you have a chance to cheat to get ahead and there is a part of you that is really convinced this is the way to go. But you know it’s not the way to go; you just are having a bit of trouble keeping yourself on the straight and narrow.

Just an interpretation. Probably nonsense.
