How loudly do your limbs complain when they wake back up?

Asked by Soubresaut (13714points) November 16th, 2010

I guess it’s that I’ve got body parts that fall asleep a lot, but I don’t feel the numb-limpness of the sleep, just the prickling as they come back-to, except it’s more intense, longer lasting, and isn’t just when I’ve been sitting for a long time, but kind of random whenever. It’s sometimes just a hand or a foot, but can get to be all of a limb at once. It hurts like crazy and doesn’t shake away. and I’ve always been someone who’s fairly pain-tolerant
When my limbs really do fall asleep they do go numb, and then the prickles are like a gentle tickle. So it’s more than just that, I’m pretty sure…

I know no one can give a definite answer, I’m just at a loss for what this might be? I’d really like to find the cause and get it to stop… it’s distracting. Thanks.

At first they don’t complain because they are in a comatose state. Later they complain in every way possible!

Sounds like poor blood circulation, but I’m no doctor!

You may be well served to have your doctor do some blood work. There are a number of conditions (including several vitamin deficiencies) that can have numbness and tingling such as you describe as symptoms. Further, if you are a dancer/have been a dancer, that can offer your doctor some important clues as there are several nerve entrapment conditions that are made worse by some ballet poses.

When my feet fall asleep (when I’ve been sitting on them or otherwise in a weird position), the tingling is so intense that it’s painful, but I’ve never experienced anything more than a little pins and needles anywhere else.

I would speak to my doctor if I were you, just to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry!

Since I turned 65 two years ago, I’ve often been accused of eating cereal in bed due to the “snap, crackle, and pop!” : )

I second CaptainHarley; your limbs are falling asleep far too often. I get sleepy limbs like 4 times a year! >.>

Go to the doctor, please! <3

I agree with @Jwtd. Your blood pressure may be so low when you are at rest that the blood kind of pools on your bottom side. The would leave the top side as the side that hurts. Similarly, when you’re sitting in one position for a long time, parts of your body may be pressed against the chair edge or the seat and then, of course, you cut off circulation.

In any case, I would see a doctor. I’d worry about my blood pressure.
