So to start let me just say that because my car is still under warranty I have to take it to a dealership for service. But I want to take it to the place that is best at service where I live. Is there somewhere I can look to see how service departments have been rated?

J D Powers does service and customer satisfaction ratings.
This site has ratings. You look up via make of car and your location. You can click on the dealership name to see the expanded ratings.
@marinelife… good site, unfortunately nobody has rated the service departments near me.
@sleepdoc Then I would check with the Better Business Bureau near you.
Check ripoffreport.com. Put the dealer you are inquiring about in the search engine and see what comes up. Ripoffreport actually gives the company a chance to rebut the claim against them, which is also informative. Every business will have unhappy customers from time to time. The key is how the problem was resolved.
Car Talk on NPR has a section for mechanics in your area. In general, it does not show dealerships, but they could. Some mechanics have multiple reviews from satisfied customers. So far I have only seen positive reviews on their website. http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/
The Better Business Bureau does not give you much in the way of details, which bothers me. These other two sites give actual reviews, which is nice.
When I bought my new car in ‘07, I researched the various dealerships service depts. I then took my best deal there to a salesman. The service dept is the most important part of a dealership.
Check with BBB and ask friends. I have often refered people to the dealership I use. That’s sometimes the best advertisments, good word of mouth
Depending on the brand then most have Factory Awards for maintaining above average customer satisfaction surveys so look up the factory brand site and see what they have as benchmarks for their franchises.
