What approximately is the largest crowd you've been part of & what was the occasion?

Asked by ucme (50047points) November 16th, 2010

In a stadium for a music or sporting event? A rally or protest of some description? Or maybe something else, let us know eh? Purely curious that’s all, thanks.

I’ve been to various concerts and sporting events, but I don’t know the numbers for how big those groups were.

The largest that I actually know the number of was probably Otakon in Baltimore which had over 29,000 people this year.

Sporting Events: St. Louis Cardinals, Syracuse Skychiefs, St. Louis Blues
Concerts: Elton John & Billy Joel, Linkin Park, Godsmack
New York State Fair

Don’t know exact numbers, but those are definitely the biggest.

1968…........civil riots in Nashville, Tn.

It was a year that changed my city forever, for the good.

Approx. 10,000 rioters protesting for equal rights in everything.

Police officers were injured, rioters were injured. property damage was extensive. gunshots could heard for hours and hours.

Did i agree with the riots? yes and no. i agree that equal rights should have been implemented, i disagree on the procedures used to accomplish that goal. too many innocent people were injured.

There is a huge difference between people, under control at a large rock concert, compared to armed rioters that are out of control.

A historian amongst us! :-)

I’d have to say some major concerts in the mid-70’s, Led Zepplin, Grateful dead, Rolling Stones, etc. And, traveling is Asia last spring, lost in major city crowds trying to find a dumpling house in a strange part of Taipei city and a lantern festival at the Chiang Kai Shek memorial. Amazing!

We saw the Rolling Stones at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, in October, 1994.
I think there were over 100,000 at that one.

I’m only part of large crowds via TV. After attending numerous concerts and a couple of rallies (last one in the early 80’s) with large crowds, I swore never to get caught up in large crowds ever again. Just to many people for me. Makes me think of a herd of cattle :D

@AmWiser

Haha, I’m with ya there. Zero interest in deliberatley attending huge events, unless it’s part of an international travel scene.

I guess Disney World in Orlando doesn’t count. I’ll have to think about this….

That Giants vs. A’s game I went to in 2004 was pretty insane. Never seen a stadium so crowded.

There was also that time I went to Disneyland in 2007 during the summer and there was one day out of the 5 days I visited the park that it was insane. There was almost no moving whatsoever. My mom hated it and made us leave. :P

When I was a teenager, I went with my Dad and a church group to the Rally for Life in Washington, D.C. (April 28, 1990). The estimated crowd size was 700,000. At one point during the rally, I stood with a pro-life sign along a busy street. Several people yelled at me, and one woman on her bike spat on me. It was a memorable day!

FYI.. I’m cautiously pro-choice nowadays.

Chicago Bears Super Bowl parade was well over 2 million people…it was spectacular!!! The Bulls 1st Championship Parade I think was bigger. 2 of those were enough for me!!

I was going to go to the Rally to Restore Sanity/Fear but realized it would be a nightmare logistically, and besides that I felt like I was getting sick. Kinda bummed about that.

I’d have to say various Prides in DC and the 9/11 tribute concert Michael Jackson put together at RFK. Those stick out immediately I suppose.

About 60,000 people for a football match at Wembley Stadium (the old Wembley).

The Police at Cal Expo in 1982/3, can’t remember exactly but it was shoulder to shoulder and face to back- one sweaty human blanket.

@Neizvestnaya

Cal Expo is always shoulder to shoulder, meh..the state fair, who cares! lol

Like @johnpowell, I was at the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. They estimated 215,000 people.
