Are flu shots really some kind of government or big pharma plot to control minds?

I got a flu shot today. I haven’t had one in years, partially because I just feel like they are a useless expense since I never get it. But this year I’m afraid some friends may have it, so it seemed a like a good idea. I told someone that I got one and they started talking about mind control. I don’t really believe something like that… because as someone whom studies psychology, that would be ridiculous. But I don’t put it past big companies trying to get you sick so that they make a profit, or something to that effect. So, I suppose my questions really is: what are the arguments for and against conspiracies involving influenza and the vaccination. Debunking in either direction is welcomed.
