Troubleshoot: coffee maker won't start - makes beep noises?

Asked by longtresses (1334points) November 18th, 2010

It’s a new Cuisinart coffee maker. I think I did everything correctly: I closed the lid of the coffee ground and put it inside its chamber; I poured in the water. Now when I hit “on” button, it wouldn’t start but would make beep noises. I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

If I knew what model coffee maker you had, I’d look it up for you.

There’s only so much that can be done with the information at hand… I don’t even drink coffee. But maybe you can find the answer in one of these manuals.

@CyanoticWasp There is no troubleshoot section in my manual; I checked. The model is 550.

Sounds like maybe the cover isn’t closed all the way?

From the manual:
Because grinder blades spin during operation, the Grind & Brew coffeemaker will not operate if the cover of the unit is open or the grinder cover is left out. If you try to turn the unit on with the cover open, the unit will beep continuously until the missing parts are installed and you close the lid. The unit will also beep if you open the lid during the brewing process. The grinder will stop grinding or, if brewing, the brewing will stop. Once the missing parts are installed and the cover is closed, the beeping stops.”

There should be some letters in front of the 550?

Maybe you need to exchange it, it might just be a bad machine.

@JilltheTooth I think certain parts might be missing. Thanks!

But what a pain in the butt for you! I hate it when that happens…

Have you set the time on the machine, as it directs on the “programming” section? And if you have, then have you finished setting the time? (If the control panel is in ‘set time’ mode and you try to do something else, then it may not allow the something else until the time setting is completed… or abandoned.)

My guess is that you either haven’t done or haven’t completed one or more of the programming / time-setting steps.
