What comes to mind when you see someone wearing a bow tie?

…someone that is not an old man or in a tux.
I’m always curious as to why someone chooses to wear a bow tie and I wonder what it is about the person that makes them choose to wear one. Do you wear one, if so why? Or have you known someone who wears bow ties? Why do they do it?

They’re going for…something…you know, some kind of a look and some of them do pull off that kind of hip, in an offhanded fashion but most fail miserably. I’ve worn a bowtie once, not with a tux but it was for GenderBender Ball.
What comes to mind for me is that the person is an individualist.
Depends on if they pull it off or not. Whenever I see someone wearing one on TV, I always say “Nice bow tie!”
I grew up in Southern California so when I see someone wearing a bow tie the first thing that comes to my mind is Dr. George Fischbeck. After that little walk down memory lane I always think the wearer must be somewhat eccentric then I wonder if they tied it themselves. For some reason I have always wanted to learn to tie a bow tie.
I think, conformity and norms.
I think “mass murderer” but that may only be because of Problem Child.

Pussy
I think bow ties are kinda cute.
The kind that can’t figure out a slip knot.

I love them, personally. I think of E. Gordon Gee the President of Ohio State among others . . .
Awe, Peewee Herman. So cute. :P
What comes into mind for me is bow tie pasta, because I’m hungry. But that’s not what you’re looking for. As a fashion trend, I would think that the person who wears them is old fashioned.
I think of my father, who occasionally wore them to church, and always looked handsome in his tux when he and Mom went out dancing at a Cottilion. My 20 year-old nephew now wears them for special events, and somehow he pulls it off without looking like a geek.
My Dad had a holly bow tie he always wore at Christmas. Damn, it was cute.
The local weatherman; my former boss (who I hated); and my brother.
I think it’s an affection that is meant to tell people you’re different, without having to pierce yourself in a dozen places or tattoo your face.
Other than on TV, I haven’t ever seen anyone wearing a bow tie that wasn’t also either wearing a tux, or an old man. It’s a custom that’s definitely become extinct around here.
If the person wearing it is a male and the tie has cartoon characters on it, chances are he’s a pediatrician. Babies grab on to long ties.
i think of a NERD when someone is wearing a bow tie
