Creative mounting ideas for a pistachio shell art project?
I’m collecting pistachio shells to paint with brown paint like tiny tribal masks. I want to mount them on something in straight rows. What should I use to mount them and on what should I mount them? Brown card stock or something?

You could mount them on copper wire with a hot glue gun.
You could also use modeling clay.
Cork board maybe with a hot glue gun, or, coconut husks, unpolished granite tile with a mounting hook, or, a drum skin stretched and framed.

oh… no… tell me he didn’t do that @BarnacleBill. no… that didn’t happen… did it?
How about a box or a mirror or an egg shell/Christmas tree ornament?
What about the backing card they use for things like butterfly collections? Maybe in a display case like that which could hang on the wall. Sounds like an amazing idea!

Or do a circular pattern with a giant, like walnut or coconut mask in the middle. lol
Arrange all the little faces into the shape of one larger face.
I would mount them on tiny pen springs to a board with epoxy.
Yes, laughing masks….
Go around your neighborhood and glue one to every front door, it will cause an uproar of mystery, gossip, and maybe become an urban legend. hahahah
Before you even paint the shells, you could fill in the concave back sides with hot glue, or regular Elmer’s white glue, so it comes up level to the edge of the shell (like filling a bowl up to the rim with water) then let that glue dry. After you have painted your shells, then you can put a small dot of hot glue onto the dried glue “base” and then stick the shells onto the material of your choice. I’m thinking a piece of stained or varnished plywood, or a piece of masonite. You can use a ruler (and a T-square if you want) to measure out the rows and exact spots where you will stick the shells.
Sounds neat!
I like the spring idea. You could make your own springs in the proper gauge wire by using beading wire and pliers, the round kind or get wire at a hardware store and wrap it around a tube of the right diameter and that would leave you wire on either end to attach them. And something just to think about… I have a “school” of pistachio nut fish, about ten of them, that I bought at a crafts fair ages ago and they are each mounted on magnets. The fish are very cool I think. The painting is pretty intricate and they have fins and tails that are attached with wire through an opening in the back so the tails wiggle. I hope you can get some idea from the photos. It was hard to get good pictures because they are so small.
