You should be able to find out everything you need to know here, on Amtrak’s website, including fares, routes and schedules. The fares on Amtrak can vary widely depending on when you are going, and when you are coming back, if you’re making a round trip.

It appears Amtrak service in Davenport IA is a bus station. You might be able to fly cheaply; what dates do you need to travel?

If you take The Dog, it runs between $206 – $263 but takes 2 days to get there.

Yes, I was a bit off on this one. If you do a google search on “amtrak route map” you’ll find a pdf version of their route map, about three hits down, and if you look at that it looks like your best bet is to find your way to Galesburg, Illinois and from there you can get a train directly to LA, Union Station, but @BarnacleBill is right, their Davenport, Iowa listing is a bus station. You could call them, the bus company/station and find out if you can get a bus from there to Galesburg. And he is also right that it is sometimes cheaper to fly than to take the train.

Thank you both very much. I’m not sure of the dates yet but never the less this is extremely helpful. Galesburg seems to be about an hours drive. Not bad. I’ll check some flights too. Again, thank you. I really appreciate it.

I just went to Amtrak’s website and got a fee of $184 from Galesburg to Union Station if you leave this Sunday.
