What is a Nain?

I’m reading The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme: The Floating Island by Elizabeth Haydon. Ven is Nain and I have no idea what it is!! Do you know?

According to this, it is a race that looks like humans but tend to live four times as long, but according to this, it is a a dwarf-like, underground-dwelling race.
The book will probably explain what a Nain is as it goes along. Storytellers never tell you everything about everything at the beginning or the story would end up more like a lecture and be no fun.
In norse mythology a nain was a dwarf. Tolkien also used the word as the name for some of his dwarf characters (his idea of a joke on doubt).
In French un nain is a dwarf.
And a _floating island_is a delicious dessert made with meringue and custard.

Nain is the Welsh word for Grandmother, gran, granny, nan, nanna etc. :-)
