I’m searching for an LED HDTV. I’ve found this model Samsung UN46C6500, described as an “LED-Backlit LCD HDTV.” What does this mean?

That’s what you’re looking for; and Samsung is the best brand of television you could be looking at. They give you the best bang for your buck… quality for quantity of dollars.
The advertising industry incorrectly calls LED Backlit LCD HDTVs “LED HDTVs”.
LCD TV’s make the picture from lots of little coloured pixels. So that you can see the picture they are lit up from behind. Old style LCD screens used a flourescent tube (just like you’d have to light up the room) the advantage of this is its cheap but unfortunately it can lead to areas of the screen that are brighter than other areas. An LED backlight TV uses LED’s instead. There are various different mothods of doing this and they all produce different results so its worth doing a bit of research before you buy. For example an edge lit screen will be very thin but other wise simmilar to an old style LCD. Some LED screens can dim the light behind the darker areas producing better contrast and blacker blacks than normal but this can be at the expense of some of the detail. The best advice is to try and watch the TV and see if you like the picture (or you know…. buy the biggest screen at the cheapest price).
Petty much the difference beeen a regular flashlight and an led flasight.the led is way brighter and lasts way longer. That is the technology behind the led t.v“s
