Macbook won't sleep, help?

Asked by simonPARASITE (195points) November 22nd, 2010

I own a Macbook and as of late it won’t go to sleep.
I will put it in sleep mode through the taskbar and it will wake up by itself after about a minute, and it will wake up by itself again if I just close it too.
Does anyone know why this is happening/how I can fix it?

Try resetting the SMC.

Also make sure you’ve done all system updates, as there were several related to MacBook sleep issues.

I presume you’ve already checked your sleep settings in System Preferences and they are OK?

Sounds like there’s some peripheral (mouse, keyboard, etc) that’s waking the computer from sleep. Do you use an external mouse, keyboard, webcam, or other peripheral? Plugging in or unplugging a mouse can have this effect as can wiggling your mouse or typing on the keyboard. This may not be the issue, but it’s worth mentioning.
