Do the schools teach "Debating" (in English or any language) in your region?...

I mean aren’t the rules of debating:
-focus on tackling the point with a counterpoint, and never attack the person you are debating.
-admit when see the other person’s facts, or point of view (EDIT:or conclusion are accurate)
Do you think schools should have it, if they don’t?
There is no reason to call people names, but people do when they run out of things to say.

I grew up in Michigan. My high school had a forensics class that could be taken to fulfill a speech requirement. I assume we must have had a debate team. I was taught about fallacies in 10th grade English. That was over 20 years ago, though.
Speech and Debate was a required class in my school. Now, thanks to budget cuts, Forensics is strictly extracurricular.
Forensics is a field of science dedicated to the methodical gathering and analysis of evidence to establish facts that can be presented in a legal proceeding.
Forensics? Why do they call it that? I always thought that word has to do with CSI. But anyway, you didn’t go up in front of the class to debate another person?
In AP English Comp during junior year, we learned argumentative strategies, logical fallacies, etc. We had to write speeches and make arguments and debate; it was actually quite fun and helped fuel my interest in debate online.
But, again, this was not a mandatory class. Most people I knew took it, but many did not. As far as I’m concerned, debate and argumentative strategies and logical fallacies should be mandatory.
I was refering to @submariner ‘s “we must have had a debate team” when I wrote ” you didn’t go up in front of the class to debate another person?”
@Blueroses absolutely. I just meant I am used to hearing it in association with CSI, but yes it is a general term.
But it is too bad it is exracurricular.
The high school I went to established a debate team as an after school extracurricular activity, but it is not taught as an official class nor is it required. We did cover certain elements of rhetoric in my AP English Language and Composition class (see @DominicX‘s answer as my experience was relatively similar, but substitute “debate” for “persuasive essay”.) At my university, all students are required to take either Speech and Debate or Advocacy and Argument as a General Education requirement.
Yes. CSI popularized Forensic Pathology. My class in HS was called Forensic Speech.

They call it Forensics here and have huge competitions.
I was on the debate team in hs. Probably the only team I was on. I’m sure they have them where I live now. I got a hot date with a hot chick researching in the library. Can you spell GEEK? Turned out she was religious and was saving herself for marriage or something. And here I thought it was Jesus who saved. Go figure.
We had to debate as part of Social Studies- whew, long time ago!
The subject is barely mentioned in class, but there are debate clubs for those who are interested.
One of my daughters was on the debate team in middle school, but her high school doesn’t offer that. It’s a shame, because I think it’s a skill everyone should learn.
There is a debating society in my college, but I never joined so I can’t tell you more than that.
I remember being a member of the schools debating club for a very short while. School didn’t teach it as such though.
In Germany it’s an integral part of the high school curricula, both in German and English.
