For those who do, when are you putting up your Christmas tree this year?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37748points) November 27th, 2010

My girls and I put ours up last night.

Do you put yours up right after Thanksgiving Day (for Americans), or do you wait till it’s closer to Christmas?

I know of some friends who put it up on Christmas Eve.

I put it up Christmas eve. If you put it up in November you’re sick of the thing by mid December.

i would put it at the end of November so in December you could acully spend time with family

I’ll be putting it up tonight and then decorating it tomorrow. I let it sit overnight so it can settle before decorating it. The star that we put on top will stay off until my husband is home to put it on.

Traditionally, we’ve gotten the tree on the first weekend of December because we would go and cut one down. Now my family (my sister and I will be in school during that time) goes and gets one at a lot probably either on the 1st of December or a little after. (My parents still refuse to use a fake tree as our main tree, though we will put up a couple fake trees around the house. Plus the lot they get one at is a fundraiser for our church).

I plan to put it up next weekend, but things will get in the way, Katawagrey will have to work, etc. etc. so it’ll probably gp up on the 22nd or 23rd. Seems to be a tradtion, now.

We’ve put it up during the Army – Navy game for as long as I can remember.. so it’s whenever that falls.
Last year, we didn’t get the tree up until Christmas Eve, and that was only because mom screamed at everyone until we did. We just didn’t care about it.

This year.. I have my own little tree.. it’s going up after the Christmas parade next weekend.

We usually put it up on the first weekend in December. The whole decorating process is about a 3 day deal. We’ve got hundreds of tree ornaments, an entire ceramic Xmas village and all sorts of other things that go inside and out: a collection of glass Xmas trees, a collection of brass deer, rugs, pillows, figurines, a dancing Santa, stockings, vases and candy dishes etc.

I admit that I already busted out the Xmas music on the day before Thanksgiving while my mom and I were cooking, hee hee.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies You sound like my aunt and uncle they have this little 12 inch tall ceramic Xmas tree that has about 10 little lights sticking out of it (which I secretly covet because it’s so cute) and they switch it on Xmas Eve and put it away the next day, or maybe the day after Xmas.

@Kardamom You remind me of my grandmother. She has 9 trees. Each one is a different theme. Plus the villages, blankets and all sorts of random stuff that gets set everywhere. It’s like the North Pole threw up in her house.

@rangerr That’s too funny! We are kind of like Xmas junkies. Where we live, they always have these temporary stores that just sell Xmas stuff and there’s a year round Xmas store in our local mountains that we LOVE going to. We even have a nativity scene that over the years has come to include a little rubber dog and a plastic kitty. One year, when I was a little kid, our dog ate one of the wise men!

We go to a Christmas tree farm two weeks before Christmas and cut our own tree down. We leave it up until my birthday, Jan.4th. I like to enjoy the season after the rush of the holiday.

I put it up whenever I feel like it, just as long as it’s in December. I am thinking next weekend.

We put up the tree the afternoon before Christmas day. With the kids all out of the house this year, I probably won’t bother.

zenvelo's avatar

the kids and I will get a tree next Saturday; we almost always get it first Saturday in December. But my kids are already in good spirits; they have helped their grandmother put up her artificial tree the day after thanksgiving for ten years now. and my daughter reminded me we haveto go to Trader Joe’s to get gingerbread men this weekend. (That’s to warm up for making them ourselves.)

I like to have my decorations up in the beginning of December.

I put mine up yesterday. It’s always done the day after Thanksgiving, so we have a whole month to enjoy it.

I did it today.

When our family remembers to go into the attic, take it downstairs, and put it together again.

It’s that issue of remembering that it’s almost Christmastime that can be daunting. It’s usually the first week of December, on the weekend.

Usually its the second weekend in December, which falls near my daughter’s birthday. Helping us put up the tree was a birthday treat when she was younger.

I had my up for Thanksgiving with the intention of having everyone participate in the decorating. Didn’t quite work out that way though. I typically put the tree up 2 -3 weeks prior to christmas. One year when I lived in an apt, I didn’t feel like dragging the fake tree down to the storage unit. I instead, put it in the corner of the dining room. Needless to say I got alot of feedback: “couldn’t you at least put Valentine’s or Shamrocks on it”? The best thing was that the day after Thanksgiving, I pulled it out into place, plugged it in and wa la!! I was ready for Christmas!! That was the bestest year. lolol
