Do you desire but are afraid of injuring those tiny little dogs like peekapoos or Yorkies?

Asked by Aster (20028points) November 28th, 2010

I love tiny little fluff ball lapdogs like Yorkshire Terriers or any very small fuzzy dogs. But I can’t have any because what if I slammed a door on one? Or fell on one or stepped on one? Besides; it would slip right through our fenceposts.
How about you? Do you , too, love little dogs the size of cats but you’re too scared you’d hurt one?

I HATE yappy little dogs! I want to wack them! The dog we found is the size of a small terrier, but he’s not yappy so he’s good.

If you were to rewrite the question “Do you desire to injure those tiny little dogs like peekapoos or Yorkies?” I would answer yes.

I would put chicken wire or hardware cloth against the fence to prevent escape.

I grew up with big dogs so when we got a 10 pound terrier I didn’t think she was a “real” dog. Ha, ha, she was a tough little girl, strangers were afraid of her. At the dog park she held her own in the scrum among the labs and rottweilers.

Obviously millions of people do fine with small dogs, if they can do it so can you!

I guess you’d just have to be careful.I have managed to trip over my German Shepherd.XD
I prefer big dogs, but if I ever got a little one,it’d be a Cairn or Norwich Terrier. They are too cute!:)

Never occurred to me, but then again, I own cats.

I am not particularly drawn to any specific breed of dog. Big, small, whatever.

I’d be more concerned about our hunting dogs eating them.

You do have to be careful, but it’s also not quite as easy as you might think. For example, Yorkies can, in fact, see that a door is closing and get out of the way, just like all the other dogs. You might step on a foot, but not on the entire dog – you probably don’t lift your foot 6 inches into the air every time you take a step. Yorkies are basically scared, scared little creatures who won’t go more than 10 feet from your side when outside – which means they won’t run away through the fence, but they’ll also need you to accompany them every time they piddle.

I don’t particularly want any type of dog right now (downtown apartment living just isn’t fair to them), but I wouldn’t be afraid of hurting a small dog. Just like @papayalily said, dogs are intelligent enough to get out of the way of a closing door, for example – any type of dog. I’ve got cats, and I’m not worried about hurting them. Even if they do get their paws stepped on once in a while, or fall off the bed, they’re resilient.

If you’re worried about them getting through your fence, @jaytkay‘s suggestion is perfect. Also, many dogs, once they learn their “turf”, won’t stray far.

Not really. But I am afraid I will hurt me and my wife’s shih-tzu (I think I spelled that right) because I can’t stand him.

@From_The_Ashes I love those dogs. Why do you hate him??

Probably he’s a yapper!!!
