Is 140 performances in one year too many for a 16 year old musician?

I think his manager should be arrested for child abuse.

that’s less than three times per week. That’s not as much time as kids who are training for olympic level sports- ice skating, gymnastics, swimming. If the kids is Justin Bieber, he’s doing what he wants to be doing, he’s not being forced.

It can both ways. It can be good and bad. If the kid is doing what he likes, by all means he can go for it. That’s his job, he signed the contract, that’s what he gets to be as blunt as possible.

If its in his contract, then there’s nothing they can do about it, as far as I know.

who is it, anyway? Is it Justin Bieber? because he… I’ll keep my opinions to myself, on second thought.

Child abuse? This kid is living the dream. There are millions of musicians in their late teens – early 20’s who would give anything to play 140 paid gigs a year.

I agree with @GladysMensch he’d stop If he wanted to anyway.

Yes if he is moving from place to place. No, if it is all in the same place. The travel counts in my opinion, so it is many more hours than just the performance.

@JLeslie He will be visiting countries throughout Europe, Indonesia and South America.

Is he receiving any schooling during this time?... It may be an amazing experience for him that just becomes the “norm” for him and so he doesn’t think he’s working hard, just living his life the way it is… (I’m recalling the Harry Potter kids from the films as I write this.) He will certainly learn a lot about life and what it is to work hard, so as long as it doesn’t go to his head and turn him spoilt (from the attention). It could be a great learning curve for him, and a wonderful opportunity to see some pretty amazing places…

If he is doing it because he wants to and things like his education and health aren’t suffering then surely it is fine. Sixteen years old isn’t that young (if he was 10 then I would think you had a good point) and like @GladysMensch said, it is more likely that he is having the time of his life. Providing he is being paid fairly for it (ie: his money isn’t all going to his management leaving him with a minimum wage) child abuse is a bit of an over exageration.

I don’t know, depends on the teenager – if it were me, I’d be fine with it.
