Please suggest a name for my new clothing line.

Asked by nameseeker (7points) November 28th, 2010

Contemporary, trendy clothing line starting with tees, hoodies, etc. Along the lines of GAP, AE, Fossil. Looking for an interesting name that stands out from the crowd. Would be great if you guys can provide an interesting name.

Captain Cheddar original. I can see it now! “I’m wearing a captain cheddar original” Lol, I’d buy it. I changed it, yes. I’m sorry but MF is my brain child and I own it. I was giving an example.

Could you tell us more about your target demographic? Are you trying to break into the GAP, AE, and Fossil markets? What sorts of things, other than designer clothes, do they like?

I’ve always liked how FN-Herstal called that one pistol “FiveseveN,” throwing their initials into it. Not really a usable name, but the concept is interesting.

@ETpro thanks for the welcome.
@Nullo—Thanks a lot for the suggestions…I am looking for something more sophisticated and yet trendy. Shouldnt sound like i am fooling around…if you know what i mean. The target segment is young, trendy and educated. You can say a cross between G——A——P and Banana —-...—— Republic.

@nameseeker What city/state/region is your company going to be based in? Do you have an interesting first/last/family name you could use? Have you decided on a color scheme? Any fascinating hobbies or interests? All of these things could help us come up with a name that suits you, so throw it at us! :)

nameseeker's avatar

@augustlan this will be online and pan-USA. Dont want to use my last name for the branding. Color could be seagreen or dark blue. All these actually depend AFTER i get the brand name. coloring, etc. etc. will be mapped out after i get the name. thanks.

I think that whatever name you chose don’t try and make it sound ‘hip and happening’, ‘down with the kids’ or ‘street’ because this is a massive turn off for anyone under the age of about 20 as to them it will seem fake and patronising. I know of no one who would be drawn to a brand which replaces the letter ‘s’ with ‘z’ or uses unnecessary apostrophes and slang words. The use of names that contain these elements immediately make young adults think that the brand name was chosen by middle-aged people who have no knowledge of modern culture but want to choose a name to attract youth. I understand that the majority of your customers may not fall under the youth category but I doubt many 20–35 year-olds would see a brand name that sounded ‘street’ and think the clothes were aimed at them. Therefore I advise you steer well clear of this whole area of brand names.

Good Luck.

GUYS ANY SUGGESTIONS WITH THE WORD ‘HAWK’ OR ‘FALCON’ ....

thekoukoureport's avatar

Thesaurus might help.

Sky Hawk?
Furious Falcon?

Nullo's avatar

Excellent name suggestion, @thekoukoureport :P

Hawks and falcons, while cool, are more evocative of outdoorsy sorts of activity and apparel. You sure that you want to do that?

Maybe just go with a species of falcon or hawk.

flyte (following from thekoukoureport) :)

sub-herban (for the drug culture reference or if the clothes are made from hemp lol)
