Going through a rough patch and just finding ways to motivate myself. Unfortunately though I’m having little success and I find myself just kinda “sleep-walking” through the days because I know I “should.” So what do you use as motivation when you need it?

Not wanting to be poor anymore lol. I see people with nice cars and easier lives than mine, so I want to be like that too lol. Yeah, I know it’s shallow, but it’s a short answer.
I would get out and get lots of exercise if you don’t do so already. Set up a daily regimen and stick to it and you will feel the “blues” melt away in no time.
Death and starvation works for me. ;)
@Cruiser I have been working out, studying german, etc, etc…. They aren’t really working… So I’m thinking more along the lines of a BIG motivator. Like if I had kids, they would be a motivator, but I don’t so yah.
Life’s way too short to fit everything in I want to do. Up & at em :¬)
Perhaps you could give yourself specific things to work towards, and come up with rewards you can do when you’ve achieved them?
For me, rewards would be going shopping for something new that I don’t normally get (whether that’s clothes, or a dvd or some other such thing)...
Is it day to day stuff that you’re struggling to get motivated with, or is there something specific you’re “meant” to be doing and not?
At the age of 58, i went back through our police academy for a second time. i was 58 years old and out of shape. i was determined to make it or die trying. my motivation was just knowing that i would graduate again and that my son and daughter, from Seattle, would be at the graduation ceremonies, to pin my badge on my uniform. it all worked like a charm.
Motivation can come in many forms. different strokes for different folks. mine was to see the smiling faces on my children at graduation. my biggest motivation came from my guardian angels that helped me make it through the academy.
Prayer changes things. never doubt it.
It sounds like people are saying that if you place yourself in a challenging situation, those challenges will force you to act.
@wundayatta Well I suppose the situation I’m in is forcing me to act. The problem is nothing is really motivating me. I’m just doing things because I know that I should. The only real solid motivator I have at the moment is, for reasons I won’t get into, a bad motivator. I guess I’m just looking for something else.
Take on a new responsibility. Usually that means volunteering. It could be school. Or whatever. You commit to something where others will hold you accountable. That will force you to do it.
www.mindbloom.com It was helping me a lot until I had an unrelated episode that sent me spiraling. I will be going back.
Anger, hatred and revenge.
sigh…. every day I have to find the motivation to not go out and drive my car into a wall or swallow an entire bottle of whatever I can find in the bathroom…. and my lifes problems aren’t even that great…. But nothing seems to give me the motivation. I guess I’m just getting sick of it.
It sounds like you are suffering from depression. You should really go see your doctor and have him give you a referral to a therapist. Don’t self medicate! That will just perpetuate the problem. I’ve read some of your other posts and you don’t seem to be able to move in a positive direction because of the depression. Please talk to your doctor. That could be your number one motivation—getting better and learning how to better deal with the crappy situations that ultimately come down the pike for everyone. I’m rooting for you : )
