What TV show did you not expect to like, but ended up loving it?
Why did you not expect yourself to like it? What about the show made you like it?
For me it was Glee and The Office.

Mine was 3 and ½ men. Also I used to really dislike Adam Sandler but he is one of my favorites now.
Friends. I thought it was ridiculous to assume the viewers would believe these 20 something year olds could live in NY in a nice apt. and half the time some of them weren’t working. I think it wasn’t until halfway through season 2 that I started watching it. I was hooked.
The Office too. Community started out a little cheesy but became really awesome. Psych was recommended to me several times before I started watching and now I don’t know anyone who still follows it, except for me. 30Rock seemed to have a pretentious vibe but it’s actually extremely down to earth. Lost didn’t seem like it was going anywhere but man did that show turn me on. Skins took me a little while to adjust but I ended up loving that too.
George Lopez. His mother (Benny) makes the show for me.
Friends and SportsNight. I thought SportsNight was gonna be more about Sports than I cared for, but it ended up being one of my favorite TV shows ever.
I like the new Hawaii Five-O, and I wasn’t expecting to.
Smallville, but it ended up sucking after the 6th season anyways.
Doctor Who
@chyna So does it bug you how every single show does that now?
Seinfeld. I was (and still am) annoyed by deficiencies of the characters. I don’t like stupid people, even if they are being played for laughs. But eventually I came to understand that that was what the show was about. I screened out that part, and was able to enjoy the show for years after that.
@papayalily Yes it does. Another thing that drives me crazy is those kid shows like Josh and Drake that are young teens and never seem to have any parents home.
@chyna I know those get on my nerves too. Especially iCarly. I hate those shows.
@chyna Yeah, but how on Earth would that show be fantasy-fulfillment for preteens if there were parents?
I started watching Friends before I was old enough to understand how unrealistic the apartment situation really was. And even when I did, I always thought it was just a tv thing, like that no matter how large the conflict, family issues can always be solved with a heart-to-heart over food or drink (which does bug the living crap out of me). Or that abusive boyfriends, if only sticking around for one educational episode, won’t really be abusive until the climax when, out of nowhere, they’ll get violent.
I have to agree with others who’ve said The Office. I’m not usually a huge fan of “stupid comedy”, so I resisted watching the show for a while. After a friend made me watch a few episodes, I found that aside from the stupid, there’s a lot of really clever jokes in there too.
Another one: Battlestar Galactica (the Ron Moore version). I was never big into sci-fi stuff, so when my fiance started watching the DVDs that he had borrowed from a friend, I didn’t really pay attention. But I got hooked, and I mean HOOKED. That show ended up being, in my opinion, one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s not a sci-fi show per se; I describe it as an intense drama that just happens to take place in space.
The Vampire Diaries on CW… usually don’t like shows geared toward teenie boppers but this was is actually quite good with a nice story (and a cute cast)
The Teletubbies! When you watch with the kids it all kind of makes sense somehow. Eh-oh Dipsy….Eh-oh La-La…..Eh-oh Po…..Eh-oh Tinky Winky! Time for tubby bye bye’s XD
How I Met Your Mother: I had to watch a few episodes before I got fully invested and understood each character. Now it’s one of my favorites.
Lopez Tonight: I never really liked George and that sitcom he had, but I actually enjoy watching his talk show.
Beverly Hills: 90210: Yes, I’m a guy, but my wife started watching this 90’s teen soap from Netflix and it’s actually a lot of fun and isn’t too bad of a show.
@Summum It’s Two and a Half Men
spungebob square-pants and Aqua-Team-Hunger-Force
Stacked. I saw the promos for it and figured it was the dumbest premise ever. After it’s short run I watched all the episodes on Hulu and I don’t think there was one where I didn’t laugh out loud at something. Even Pamela Anderson did a good job, although I think she was making fun of herself for the most part.
@Zyx Virtual High-five for Psych, one of my more recent favorite shows.
I don’t know if I loved it, but 24 was a lot better than I thought it would be.
Big Bang Theory, the idea sounded pretty stupid to me at first but now I’m hooked!
Babylon 5 – Totally not my thing, but I was dating a guy who watched it and I got hooked.
Alias – Didn’t watch it until it came on in syndication. I watched it beginning to end, five nights a week, while just after my daughter was born and I was up late nursing her.
Psych – I thought it was fake and cheesy. It is now absolutely one of the favorite shows in this house. My husband loves it!
Futurama – I remember thinking that it was just going to be the Simpsons in Outer Space. I’m so glad they’re making new episodes.
@Ivan I like 24 too, but find it easier to watch the whole season by buying it and watching instead of waiting a week in between.
The show that surprised me in its awesomeness (and one of my favorite shows running today) I House M.D. I don’t usually go for network tv because it bores me, but House really stood out.
Friday Night Lights I don’t like football but love the show
Heroes, season one I stuck with it but it never matched the first season
Firefly Caught an episode here and there but didn’t fall in love until I had a marathon
@Blueroses I stuck with Heroes too… unfortunately.
The X-Files. I remember thinking that it sounded kinda hokey, but I got hooked the first time I watched an episode. (“The Jersey Devil,” if I remember correctly.)
I stayed with it for 8 years, but stopped watching when Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were phased out.
@Dr_Dredd Same here. I loved it, but when the main characters left, there was no reason to watch.
@erichw1504 I feel like they used me. Betrayed and somehow… dirty. sob.
I did not expect to like The Big C either, but it won me over and I was so sad when the season ended because I love the characters.
@Dr_Dredd Yeah, they jumped the shark on that one. Should have ended it good with Mulder and Scully.
Do movies count?
I thought I would hate twilight but after being pestered for hours I watched it and actually liked it. I hate that I like it.
Babylon 5
Sopranos
Oz
Breaking Bad
Nurse Jackie
Spartacus Blood and Sand
House
I must admit that I really fell in love with GLEE (please don’t laugh at me) and House M.D. though at first I didn’t think I would like them at all- house seemed way to depressing and GLEE—well way to high-school cheerfuller and poppy.
My wife got me hooked on Fringe.
I absolutely loved season 1 of Heroes. Especially the end where Peter and Sylar had a final confrontation, Sylar died, and Peter burned out his powers saving the world. No other seasons were made (la la la, I’m in total denial, la la la).
“Married With Children” when it first came out. It seemed goofy at first but ended up being one of the very few shows that made me laugh so hard. I don’t humor very easily.
I hated hated hated the original Battlestar Galactica. I didn’t expect to feel otherwise about the new version of it, but it rocked!
@Junfan I know a jelly who is going to give you a “great answer” lurve for that.
