How much does it take to overdose on Motrin?
I have been feeling really ill and have taken two 200mg motrin but it does not seem to be working. Would it be okay if I took more?

How long has it been since you took the 200 mg?
You can take 1000 mgs every 4 hours – that’s prescription strength without the copay.
Almost 2 hours now. I’m afraid that if I take more, I’ll feel worse since I’m only 105lbs
@ihatebeingsick What are you sick with, and what are you hoping the Motrin does?
I’ve been that weight before and taken 1000mgs – it’s fine (although, should you have any blood thinning/clotting issues or are on other meds you may want to steer clear)
I’ve had the flu before and it seems like the flu again. I was hoping it could ease my headache and bring my fever down.
@ihatebeingsick If you don’t have any reason you can’t take Tylenol, you can alternate taking Tylenol and Motrin to help with the headache and fever.
the bottle says fever reducer. but okay thanks.
@papayalily “Ibuprofen is great for sore muscles, sore throats and can also be very effective at bringing down fevers.” Source (emphasis mine)
Perhaps we shouldn’t be telling people how to kill themselves, inadvertently or not.
@marinelife And yet the general consensus of the medical community is that the only reason to take Tylenol is if you have a fever. If ibuprofen worked as well as Tylenol, doctors would stop prescribing Tylenol at all.
@Ivan You’re gonna need to elaborate on that
@papayalily The very best fever reducer is aspirin not Tylenol. Tylenol gets prescribed because some people have stomach sensitivity to aspirin.
I don’t like Tylenol because it causes liver toxicity.
@marinelife And because you can’t take aspirin as a kid, so you don’t get in the habit.
@papayalily You must be youthful. I grew up taking aspirin and never suffered from Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which was not yet identified.
Ibuprofen tends to bring a high fever down faster than acetaminophen. Other than that, they are fairly interchangeable. Ibuprofen also lasts longer.
This comes from a couple of the doctors in our pediatrician’s office, the pediatricians of several other moms I know (I was in MOMS Club), the hospital we went to, and a few nurses I know. I have seen the difference when trying to bring down my daughter’s fever.
