I have totally forgotten my password for my user account on my computer and do not know what to do?

Did you ever write it down anywhere? Tell anyone? I’d start there first. (Don’t know if you have already…?)
Then, do you have any other account on the computer that you can access, or is it the only one? I’m pretty sure there’s a way to manually override accounts inside another.
And if no… wait for @FutureMemory’s response…

There’s a free program you can download and burn onto a CD that will recover your password. Obviously you need to have internet access and a cd burner to accomplish this, but if you’re able to create the CD you should be ok.

Here’s a more direct link to the appropriate download page. If you download the “live” version, once burned you can reboot your system with the cd in the drive and it should handle the rest.

My daughter installed Clickpotato and I think that infected my laptop, my internet is really slow at loading now.

Yeah, I changed my password, then promptly lost the slip of paper I wrote it on.

Rebooting the computer with the orphcrack cd in the drive did the trick. It took less than 1 minute to retrieve the PW.

@FutureMemory The program is stuck at 98.1 MB of 496 MB copied. It looks like it is downloading but it hasn’t for a while…now what?
