Is anyone else annoyed by the Wikipedia guy?

Oh, also.

I just figure he’s telling the truth that Wikipedia needs donations. Last few visits, it’s been other Wikipedia Authors’ photos. Maybe he sensed his visage was wearing on user’s nerves.

He’s not that hard on the eyes, but there have been a lot more variety lately.

His face is too big. It does bug me a little. But I don’t mind donating to something I use so frequently.

Well, I think Fluther could use a Bendrewim “Personal Appeal” or something.

Wikipedia has been publishing their results on which ads generate the most revenue. They’ve been using a variety of ads to systematically and scientifically determine which ads are the best. Each combination of colors, facial expressions, and font choices has brought about a different response from users. It’s actually pretty fascinating! Anyway, that’s why they’re doing it. It can be pretty weird to have Jimmy Wales (a.k.a. Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer) staring from your screen and through your very soul, but at least you noticed the ad, right?

People should donate, if they consider wikipedia a useful resource and reasonably trustworthy.

I find it annoying every time I look something up.

It annoys me too. I understand it’s not an ad per se, but it feels to me like it is. If I had the disposable income, I’d donate, seeing as how I use Wikipedia often. But I can’t afford to, and I feel just a tiny bit guilty every time I see his face.

in fact once you donate the smug picture of his all knowing, unshaven mug is removed. ;)

It was starting to creep me out a little bit. I’m surprised that guy has so many frigging pictures of himself.

He’s seriously irritating. Also VERY full of himself. He is only a co-founder of wikipedia, but claims to be the sole founder, and he keeps editing his own page on Wikipedia to make himself look better. ugh.
