What is the strangest thing you've ever put in your kid's stockings, or found in your own?
Back when I was poor, I would splurge at Christmas. By splurging I mean I would buy the kids new socks, shoes, and wrap up a box of their favorite sugar cereal (which I would never let them eat at any other time of the year) and put it under the tree.
People thought it was funny that I put the socks in my kid’s stockings! I guess it is, in a way! :)

I put deodorant in my kids stockings before! I found some rocks in mine once. Now I just find nothing in mine, I find that a bit odd, because I’m always so good darn it!
I found a thumb in mine one year.
My dream back when I was 25 years old was to have my own house. My boyfriend at the time put a little Monopoly house in my stocking. I bought my first house that year.
My coworkers gave me a stocking filled with dried reindeer shit.
I found a small piece of coal in mine one year, and apparently it was meant to be a joke. Ha ha that was before I realized that Santa wasn’t real, and I cried all day thinking I was a bad child.
As a child my stockings were never stuffed with anything but school supplies. We got pencils and erasers mostly. I loathed my stocking stuffers and was incredibly jealous of my friend’s yearly Lifesavers Story Book. To add insult to injury – as far as my 8 year-old self was concerned – we didn’t actually have Christmas stockings, we used my dad’s work socks. .
I found the amputated foot of the person who was wearing the sock. ;-0
I guess my parents didn’t feel like paying for socks that year.
Mom meant well, but she had yet to master the finer points of petty theft. ;-)
My parents always fill our stockings with practical-ish stuff. Pens, nail files, lip balm, sticky notes, socks, stuff like that.
A couple of years ago I got a roll of quarters (for laundry).
Last year I got a roll of toonies, because my mom wanted to give me a Tim Horton’s gift card, but the one at my university was privately owned and didn’t accept the card. This way I still got a bunch of coffees from Santa :)
