What's a better gift for the nursery school teachers (unless you have another suggestion): Dunkin Donuts gift card or LL Bean monogrammed tote bag?

Asked by jca (36062points) December 3rd, 2010

I have two ideas in mind for the pre-school teachers (2 of them, one in her 20’s and one in her 40’s). Either Dunkin Donuts gift card ($20 or $30) or LL Bean monogrammed tote bag with each woman’s name on her’s.

Unless you guys have another suggestion?

I’d go with Dunkin Donuts of those choices. It seems like everyone has a surplus of reusable bags these days, and even if they don’t like donuts (fools) there’s always coffee.
I’d chose a Target or Amazon gift card over anything else though.

I like the monogrammed tote. It will last longer and is more practical.

(Also, if I wa going to give a gift card, I would go for Starbucks rather than Dunkin’ Donuts.)

I like the totes better, too. It’s a useful item and it won’t make you fat.

If I wanted to give a gift card, I’d give a useful one. I’d give a prepaid Visa card, or something. Some extraordinary percentage of gift cards never get used, which means you are donating money to Dunkin Donuts or whatever. Give them cards that can be used everywhere for anything, and it’ll be sure not to go to waste.

Coffee’s for a week… Bag could last forever.

My wife is a pre-school teacher, and while she would appreciate the sentiment of either gift, from a practical standpoint she would much rather have a gift card to some place like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond.

Tote bags are great, and very practical, but as somebody pointed out most folks these days have an abundance of re-usable bags.

Gift cards are great, but unless you know that both of these women are huge Dunkin Donuts fans I’d go with a gift card to a store where they have more flexibility in how they choose to use the money.

Do you have a “Teachers Heaven” in your area. A gift card to a place like that would not only be much appreciated, chances are most of the items purchased would wind up indirectly benefiting the kids in the classes they teach.

Dunkin donuts is the best not starbucks

She will like anything I am sure, but if it were me I would prefer more practical as someone said above, and get a GC card to Target, a grocery store, or to the mall if your mall has GC cards, unless you know for sure she likes Dunkin Donuts. I would not want a tote, because I have totes coming out of my ears from free gifts at the Lancome counter and others.

If it were me, I’d be more appreciative of the personal aspect of the tote bag, even though I have a bunch of them.

I’d go with the tote bag too. I was a daycare teacher for several years, and we always joked that Christmas was our time of year to stock up on coffee, candles, and chocolates. When any of us was given something else, it was such a happy surprise! :)

A lot of people do have reusable bags now, but when they’re used for shopping they get beat up and ugly pretty quickly. Mine do, anyway. It’s always good to have something nicer to use, and those LL Bean bags are very sturdy, with good quality. They will last a long time.

I had one family that always gave each teacher a gift card to a restaurant or the mall. One mom gave me a nice fleece pullover one year, and sometimes I’d get really cute holiday decorations or ornaments.

If you go with the coffee gift card, get Starbucks! :)

Dunkin Doughnut gift cards. why? on a cold winters morning, when you are running late for work, there is nothing like a cup of Dunkin Doughnuts coffee and a breakefast treat. its good food and coffee and real fast. a teacher or anyone would love this. a tote bag is okay, but to me its a cold gift and the other will be much more accepted and will warm their toes.

both ideas sound great! one year my husband gave his staff gift cards to both Dunkin Donuts & Barnes and Noble.

If you sew – you can give them in a homemade fabric gift bag – I am sitting here cutting and pinning a bunch of them. Thought I would mention it http://quiltedartsstudio.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/red-green-bags.jpg

I teach preschool, and I tell ya, I don’t care! The thought that you like me enough to take cash out of your budget to give me a gift, any gift, makes me feel warm and fuzzy. By the way, I have 13 teacher themed mugs….

I think those general visa/master card prepaid gift cards are better than a store specific. That way they can choose to use it anywhere credit cards are accepted.

I’ve always wanted that tote bag… and dunkin cards are really handy too (I used to get them for the holidays and loved it because I wouldn’t often treat myself to coffee when I could make it at home!). That said, I think the tote is nice!

I think the monogramed totes. This is because they will last longer. They need something to carry school supplies. And I always personally thought gift cards were not personal and only last for so long. I think they will appreciate the totes more.
