How to deal with stress related acne?

Asked by CupcakesandTea (353points) December 4th, 2010

I believe my acne started a few months ago when my life got messed up quite a bit. I used to hardly ever get acne and now it’s popping up all the time! The pimples are always on my forehead, sides of my nose, and on my chin. How can I manage this problem?

I’m sorry to hear about the stress in your life, and surely the acne isn’t helping. I’m no dermatologist, but what seems to help is to focus on resolving the stress, as well as getting into a skincare routine with products that helped.

For me, middle-aged acne cropped up a few years ago, and Proactiv cleared it up in less than a week. For a young niece, she finally went to a doctor who put her on medication that solved her acne problem.

The best of luck to you. Let us know what works.

Here is one to try.
Here is one to avoid.

Good luck.

It’s best not to assume a diagnosis from coincidence. Although the acne started around when the stress did, it may be symptomatic of some other problem.
Get thee to a dermatologist.

Acne is a disease. It can cause serious and irreversible scarring. Any other disease and you’d be off to the doctor for help. Sadly acne is one of those things that has developed a whole industry ofvarious snake oils leaving people with the idea that if they can just find the right combination of products they’ll be able to sort it out themselves. I know, I was one of those people for a long, long time.

I thought I suffered from stress induced acne, but then I figured out the real problem was that when I got stressed out I would touch my face a lot unconciously. I would lean my chin, cheek or forhead on the palm of my hand when I was thinking or reading. I couldnt stop the face supporting, so i just put my hand under my chin or on the side of my neck…i break out a little there now but no more on my face.

Go see a dermatologist and take control of your stress. Try not to freak out over stuff because that makes it worse. Also exercise really helps in getting rid of pimples because it helps your skin. Just make sure you wash your face really well after.
