Feature question: might we ever have a # of views counter thingy next to each question?

Asked by FutureMemory (24758points) December 6th, 2010

Curious if others think this would be a neat feature.

I think it would be neat. I think it would be great if it was linked to some other functionality – like a “greatest” or “hot questions” search function.

I don’t understand the question

@JilltheTooth It would be a little counter somewhere on the question that tells you how many times it has been looked at. So, if this question had been looked at 50 times now, somewhere it would say something like “Viewed 50 times”.

It can be nice sometimes to see your question got a lot of looks, but also depressing when you get a lot of looks but very few answers. I’m on a site now that has that and since the site is so slow, it’s more depressing than anything else right now because you see that people are there looking, just that they aren’t posting.

Yeah, I wouldn’t like that. Thanks for splainin’, @Seaofclouds

That sounds like a good idea! Never thought of that myself.

I wouldn’t like it. It seems to me the only thing that really matters is the number quality of actual answers. I agree with @Seaofclouds that it could be a sad thing to think that people read and declined to answer. Maybe, though, I could get behind a “Users Following” count on questions because that might make people more likely to keep older topics alive.

I would definitely like a “Take me to a random question” button for the same reason.

That would be an interesting metric, and easy to display as click through and time spent on a page are standard Web site metrics. I personally am interested in metrics for sites.
