How to find a job/volunteer position with accomodation?

Asked by noodle_poodle (1617points) December 7th, 2010

I was just wondering if anyone new of any job/volunteer vacancies available in the uk that have accomodation as part of the deal? I have a dog and that rules out hotel work. I have tried a few other options but I keep winding up on christian mission pages and as I dont believe in god I thought it would be pointless applying. If anyone has any suggestions that arnt carework related I’d be very greatful.

Hmm…you might be going for programs like peace or americorps, but I would look at http://www.dosomething.org/ and see if that’s a start. This search might help.

PS – if you find a site that you like, you can find many like it with a google search taking the site and putting “related:” before it. The search I’ve linked was done with googling “related:http://www.dosomething.org.”

There are similar sites for the UK, check out Volunteering England which mentions they have several local centers (or centres) where you can find more information. It may be a good place to start.

They also have an online database you can search here

You might also try doing a google search for “volunteer uk” and several similar sites pop up with additional resources.

Perhaps an animal shelter or other animal related charity would provide accomodation for you and the dog?

Geriatric homes and half-way houses for the mentally ill are always looking for live in caretakers. I haven’t read anything about dogs, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. There is usually a salary involved as well.

@YARNLADY yeh and that would seem to be the most readily available option but for the fact I have done support work for 2 years and would sooner chew my arm off than go back to it. I was hoping for something outdoorsy but aside from an organization I am already signed up to it seems to be pretty much nonexistant.

Here in California we have fire watch towers where volunteers live in to watch for forest fires during fire season. They apparently are closed during the winter. Have you tried the parks and public owned campgrounds?
