My 1/2 feather, 1/2 down comforter didn't really survive the dryer so well; I forgot about the tennis ball trick. It's really flat. Can it be saved?

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) December 7th, 2010

If I put it back in the dryer with the tennis balls, will it fluff back up? Or do I need to go buy a new one?

Perhaps, with enough fluff action, but you know, geese really arn’t meant to go through the dryer. No natural oils and preening action in dead feathers. :-/

a pair of tennis shoes.
Put the comforter in the dryer with a pair of tennis shoes, clean ones of course. That will beat it into shape again.

The label said it could go in the dryer :(

It wouldn’t hurt to try it.

@poofandmook – Don’t worry, it’s usually safe to wash and dry down comforters, but the fluffing tennis balls are a big part of the process, as you see. ;) I would try putting the dryer on low or tumble and tossing the tennis balls in there. That may fix it, or you may have to rewash and then dry with your tennis balls.
