What is Alternate Reality Gaming(ARG) and would I be able to play?

I just read an article in Game Informer about Alternate Reality Gaming, and I was wondering if anyone knew any more information about it and how I would get into it if interested?

This is a great concept, thank you for the question. I was thinking of implementing what I now know as ARG along side a MMORPG or RPG. Giving users rewards in the game and out, for their activities outside of the game. I’m definitely going to read up on what’s out there.
