Is it okay to take an at home pregnancy test right after menstrual period is done?

Asked by ladyv900 (713points) December 10th, 2010

I mean when the period is completely finished or does that person have to wait the very next day or a few days before taking the home pregnancy test ? Especially if they’re using the brand ClearBlue easy.

If you had your period, you aren’t pregnant. If you’re worried about getting pregnant from having sex during your period, you’ll need to wait a couple weeks for the test to have any results for you.

The test won’t mean anything. I am assuming you had a normal period and it started on the date you expected. If so my next question is how longis your cycle? If it s typically 28 days, it is almost impossible for you to get pregnant during your period. Not that you should ever risk it if you don’t want to get pregnant, but it is still almost impossible. See, most likely you have not ovulated yet, which typically happens 14 days before your next period. The reason women are told to always use birth control no matter where they are in their cycle is because sperm can live a few days inside of the women, and there is always a weird chance of a hormonal quirk on a given month, and the possibility a woman simply counts wrong, thinks she is safe, and isn’t.

For a pregnancy to show up on a pregnancy test, you need to be pregnant at least 10 days more or less, and even then you might get a false negative, and need to repeat it again if and when you are late for your period.

@JLeslie Thanks for all the information but I really just want to know if it’s okay and if I would have accurate results to take a pregnancy test a day after my period is done.

@ladyv900 the simple answer is – no.

The thing is if you understood your cycle and how people become pregnant you would not need to ask the question. I am not lecturing you, I am just pointing out that if you are having sex, and want to be able to plan when you get pregnant, which I think everyone should do their best to plan pregnancy, then you need to understand how it all works. Whether preventing or wanting to get pregnant it helps to know when you are most fertile.

@JLeslie Plus, you save money. Periods are God’s free way of saying to you “nope, you’re still not knocked up”. At-home pregnancy tests are expensive!
