Best software to isolate drum track?

Is there a best way to isolate the drum track from a song (for practice/learning) and conversely take the drums out of a song so you could play along?

Pretty tough to do to be honest because drums are usually mixed well in the stereo field and can’t easily be isolate from other instruments with EQing.

I would try loading the song into an audio editing program, and using a gate plugin to try and detect the transients, but to be honest it will be very tough to get useable results.
