I'm exhausted. I have a final in less than 2 hours. What can I do to wake myself up and de-fog my brain a bit?

Asked by tinyfaery (44242points) December 13th, 2010

I have horrible insomnia. I haven’t slept more than 2.5 hours at a time, 3.5 to 4 hours a night, for over 8 days. Last night I slept less than 3 hours. Is there anything I can do sharpen my brain a bit? I’m prepared for my final, but my brain feels sluggish and I’m a bit nervous that I might choke because I just can’t focus.

Help!

Drink one of those energy drinks that’s loaded with caffeine. it will give your brain a wakeup call for a short period of time. good luck on your final.

5 Hour Energy Shot does the trick for me. I don’t drink any caffeine on a regular basis, though, so your results my vary. Also, jump in the shower and open every shade/turn on every light in the house. After you get dressed, of course!

5 hour energy shot is the best thing to open those eyes.

Do you have any calming exercises, or meditations? Try them. I’m more worried about your fear of “choking” than your sleepiness. The adrenaline of the test will keep you awake and as sharp as you can be given the constraints. But anxiety could really mess you over.

Please just take it one question at a time. Use your test taking strategies. Don’t spend too much time on a question you are having a hard time with. Finish the test first and come back to the ones giving you trouble. Have fun. Enjoy answering questions like you do here all the time. Let the result take care of itself. Right now, if you have fun, you’ll do a lot better.

What @augustlan said and if its cold where you are. Throw on a coat and spend about 10 minutes outside. The cold should shock your system away. Take a few deep breaths while your out there. Just make sure you are wrapped warmly. You don’t want to get sick.
Even if it is warm wear you are, 10 to 15 minutes in the sun is great for waking you up.

Agree with the 5 hour energy shot. But after the 5 or 6 hours, I crash.
Good luck on your final.

I would say the energy shot. I’ve tried them and they work like a charm.

Good luck!

Are you able to nap during the day at all?

Too late for today, but you should look into meditation. It will at least help calm your brain.

Final is done, but I am still brain dead. Thanks all. I had a Red Bull, but I think it was missing its wings.

I would take a hot shower and calm myself down. I would also make a cup of chai tea and sip it slowly.Great luck!
