It’s an anagram of Theraflu, without the A.
thanks, but hmm, cannot quite understand… sorry. could you clarify a bit more?
Why does it have to have an inner meaning?
well, good question, i admit it doesn’t have to. just curious :)
Bendrew just f’n liked jellyfish.
They saw a jellyfish or multiple jellyfish or an aquarium with jellyfish the same day they came up with the reinvention of Q&A.
Fluther rhymes with druther. They’d druther be rich, but they can’t really admit that because they’d look money-grubbing if they did that. Fluther sounds like other, because it is a whole ‘nother type of beast entirely. Also, it stands for Florida and other, which is a red herring, because they actually work in San Francisco.
Look, I’m not supposed to be saying these things. There are people out there. People with men ‘o war. The poison has been distilled, and, I’m telling you, they are out to get me. I know too much. I know where the dead jellyfish are buried. I know what lies beneath the frizzer. I know secrets and secrets within secrets.
So I’ll stop there. I think I’ve given you enough clues. Just remember, the truth is in the rhymes. I’ll say nothing more. Well maybe one thing. They are different rhymes from the ones I’ve written here, now really, I gotta run.
Official answer: The site founders were looking for a collective name for a group of animals that act cooperatively. Fluther fit the bill and the domain name was available. There you have it!
I still think Gaggle would’ve been better.
@augustlan I love how domain name availability pretty much determined marketing/branding names these days :)
Team of gellyfish….first time I heard that I could not believe it. I thought the creators made it up just to attract people to the site.
I like how they chose an obscure word like Fluther. I’m on this site often now, and it starts a lot of interesting conversations.
