What kind of salary do entry level HR employees make?

Asked by lbwhite89 (1213points) December 13th, 2010

What do entry level HR employees get paid just out of college with their bachelors degree? I know it varies by location, so let’s say a city like Charlotte, NC.

I know there are HR Generalists (that eventually become HR specialists?), so is that the only entry level job in HR that’s out there?

A generalist is not an entry level job. Average salary for a generalist is 50–60k

I was an HR Bachelor out of college 2.5 years ago, and I spent ALOT of time looking at positions and pay rates.

Entry level would be HR Coordinator, HR Assistant, or HR administrator. Depending on the company, the salary for a position like this can be anywhere from $14 to $20 per hour, more on the $14 end.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask me for any other advise. I’m currently in HR, and like I said, I only started a few years ago, as a graduate w/ a bachelor’s in HR.

@mrrich724 if you use the salary wizard I posted above, salaries in this field for entry level are lower in Florida than NC (the state I looked up in the link). You were just about right on with the salary range for jobs in Flroida.

I have found that while those tools reflect differentials for different states, the real world (at least in HR, and the tons of jobs I sought) does not reflect the same differences.

I looked in many states, and actually worked in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and now south Florida. While a salary tool will show you a +15% differential for LA over Florida, I am actually earning 3k per year MORE here (not adjusting for cost of living) in South Florida with an equivalent job title.

So I would take a tool like that with a grain of salt. It all depends on the companies you are interested in, and the opportunities available.

Also, the rates I mentioned were national averages from CNN, not location specific.

This would be for a position like a data entry clerk, where you’d make anywhere from minimum wage to maybe $12 per hour. Annually this equates to the lowest 10% of HR salaries, less than $24,000 per year.
