How often do you sit?

Asked by The_Inquisitor (3166points) December 13th, 2010

How often do you sit a day? Do you think you sit too much?

I feel that I sit a lot, I’m not sure if there’s such a thing as too much sitting. It seems that no matter what, I’ll always end back up sitting.

If I’m at school, I’ll be sitting in a desk, or perhaps at a table in the library, or other sorts of places in the building.

If i’m at the mall, sometimes I’ll sit in the food court, or on a bench to rest.

At home, I will sit on my chair, perhaps a couch, or some more chairs at the dinner table.

It seems to be inevitable that we sit… Could this be a bad thing? Shall I try to not sit, more often?

I need to move. When I am home, on the phone, I have to be walking around.

I tend to sit only when I’m using the comp. I don’t have cable and I rarely watch movies. I am either busy being physically active or on the comp.

Way too often for my liking now that I’m not working as much as I use to and that I have a job at a doctor’s office. When I worked at the hospital, I could be up on my feet for 11 hours a day without giving it much thought. Now that I’m working at a doctor’s office, I sit a lot more. I try to get up at least once an hour to move around.

Sitting for too long can have some negative effects, such as circulation problems, that’s why it is a good idea to get up and move around every hour or so if you can.

On my day off? A lot. On my school days? Quite a bit. On my work days? Hardly ever for the entire time I’m at work. I sit to drive the half hour to work and school, but there are days where I don’t really sit for and extended period of time. There are also days when I have my ass glued to a surface most of the day. It just depends on what I have to do (and how much my arthritis is acting up).

At work, I am on my feet at least 7½ hours a day, so at home I like to sit or lie down quite a bit. I have arthritis in one of my knees, so after day of running around on a concrete floor, I am not in the mood to be on my feet more than necessary for at least a few hours.

I sit nearly all day, except when I get up to do household tasks. My doctor has ordered me to get up every hour for at least 15 minutes, so I have learned how to get Yahoo Calendar to send me reminders, and I do follow her advice.

As often as I can flop my legs over the side of the couch and drag my torso upright. I must rest quite a bit before attempting this.

My job is very computer/phone based so I sit a lot during the day. I try to get up and move as much as possible though.

I sit all day at work, which is not good for the circulation in my legs. That makes me more tired, so when I come home, I’m not really interested in getting out and doing things. I need to move around more.

I sit down a lot now. Maybe 8–10 hours a day. Yikes. I used to work on my feet all day, and I think it really makes a difference.

I sit at a computer most of the day at work and often in the evening as well. I walk and do water aerobics for exercise but in the winter not often enough.

Yeah, working on my feet and exercising every day in a professional dance program, I try to sit as much as I can (on the bus, at home, etc). It’s only because of my constant exercise that I stay in shape – without my dance classes, I’d be quite a couch potato.

I’ve never thought about it. I suppose I sit some at work and a bunch of time commuting but the rest of my life I feel I am flying around, like a fireball.

I sit at a desk most of the day at work. On sunny days, I ride my bike to and from work. That’s a nice bit of exercise. It’s about half an hour each way—more if the wind is against me.

Then I’ll sit a lot at home. The sitting is in front of a computer.

I sit at a desk for work and I work long hours, sometimes double shifts so I do all I can to move my legs around, stretch, take walks around the building real quick and to keep moving my toes inside my shoes. I’m lucky in that my weight is ideal so no extra pressure is on my frame that would really wear me down and I also get regular rubdowns to work out kinks. Sitting is horrible for circulation and posture.

Looking at the title to this question later on, I got a different meaning from it. How often do you sit (meditation). I.e., how often do you meditate?
