Where can I find the vinyl strip at the bottom of the bathtub?

Asked by sleepdoc (4700points) December 14th, 2010

I need to replace the vinyl strip at the bottom of our bathtub. It is the one which was installed by the contractor for all of our tubs. I have been to Lowe’s and Home Depot and the replacements which they offered were not the same. They have the tape which is sticky on the back but is far smaller that the original. We went to flooring but the only we found there was twice as large as what we have. Where do contractors get this stuff from?

Can you call the contractor to ask him where he got it?

Try a small, independant plumbing store if there are any in your area. I have one near me and it has everything that no one else has.

@chyna….. our house is in a master planned community. Trying to get a hold of the contractor is like trying to reach a specific party in the federal government. Nearly impossible to do and way more work than you can believe.

@sleepdoc I think @chyna has the right idea, even if you can’t get a hold of your particular contractor. Contact a different builder and ask them. They should be able to ask around for you, even if they don’t know off-handedly. If you don’t know any GC’s, I suggest you start making more friends. They’re great to have around! :)

@Taciturnu .. I don’t disagree with you there. We tried to talk to a couple of the guys at the HD who are contractors. None of them had any ideas where to look. We will keep looking.

What size to you need? Have you tried googling the size (1” or 2” whatever) vinyl topset?
Try this

@chyna I’ve seen it there myself.

Try your local neighborhood hardware store. The big box stores are good but the locally owned, closet to your house may have supplies that have been needed in your area.

@perspicacious Well the Lowe’s and the Home Depot where I live do not have what I took with me from my house.

@sleepdoc You can probably order it online. It comes rolled up (unless I am completely thinking of the wrong thing).

Do you have 84 Lumber stores where you live? My brother is a contractor and buys a lot of his stuff there.
