How many custom ringtones can and iphone hold?

I was under the impression that you could hold as many ringtones as you want, as long as you had enough memory

well I have a ton of memory but its only letting me put 9 on my phone that shouldnt take up a lot of memory I mean its only 15 20 second song clips

ya they don’t take up a lot of memory. Thats really weird if it only let’s you have 9. Have you tried apple support?

I have 11. I had no problem.

I have 14 so far…

I have 27 and no problems and there all like 40 secs long

Had the same problem guys, simple fix… tick selected ringtones and then individually tick the ringtones you want

Some of my songs wouldnt sync to my phone, i changed the names up a lil bit and they finally synced.

i am not able to sync one of my six, and this one is 42 seconds… i tried several ways… including the ones mentioned above… it still does work for me :(

While all of my ringtones appear in my iTunes window… they do not appear in the list if I want to “individually select them for Sync”... wierd…

does it have to do with the length of the ringtone… anyone?

update…

i think i can confirm that the length should not exceed the magical number “40”... cos i trimmed my ringtone that was 42 seconds to 39.23 seconds… and it all syncs up absolutely without any problems.. :)

i had that prob to but i figured it out. make sure the songs you want to add as ringtones are in the ringtones section of itunes rather than your iphone.

so were your library of songs on your itunes, there should be a little tab underneath for ringtones. you should add the songs there and make sure your iphone is set to sync all ringtones or the ones you want

Ladies and Gentlemen- the solution to this problem is quite simple after only able to upload 3 ringtones! Not good enough to me. so after messing with it for a bit i found the answer. Go to i-tunes and it syncs up when you connect the ipod. Under devices it says the name of your iphone- click that- dont click on music or anything on the drop tab, but go to the header above where you see the picture of your iphone and you will see SUMMARY,INFO ,APPS etc. click the ringtone section. and where it says sync ringtones, un-check it. NOW THIS WILL DELETE ANY RINGTONES YOU ALREADY HAVE. now you put all of your ringtones onto the checklist( below where the list of your ringtones are)

i found out that if you try to put 1 or 2 on at a time, that it doesnt work like that. so if you clear all your custom ringtones . then add the others you want to add WITH your existing ones, and now sync. then all the ringtones will be there. This has worked for me and i hope that it helps you all!

ps- try to keep it at 30 clips – i know it says up to 40 seconds but the smaller amount and how long are you going to listen to the song before you answer it?!?!?!?!?!? really…...

I found an easy solution and explanation. First, remember that iTunes treats your ringtones very similarly to your music. In order to load it to a device, it must reside on your computer. I always place my ringtones in my subfolder of my downloads. Otherwise they can get deleted easily if they only reside in temp folders.

In iTunes, click on the Ringtones section of your iTunes library. If you notice a yellow ’!’ tag left of the ringtone, simply click on the ringtone with the tag and you will see the error message. It most likely will indicate that the ringtone file cannot be found.

I find the easiest way to correct this is to simply delete the ringtone in the iTunes ringtone list. Next, save your ringtone in a folder in your computer library that will not get deleted and will backup with your normal backup routine. Next move the ringtone to your iTune Library. After Syncing your device, all should be good to go and you will have a better understanding of your iTunes data management.
