What are some good stress relievers?

Asked by TrkReznor (704points) December 15th, 2010

I have a lot of stress built up don’t know how to deal with it. I am really lazy because of the band, video games make me mad, I already eat constantly, and idk. I have tried a few things but nothing has worked.

Meditation works wonders.

Exercise, whether it’s going to the gym or running, or biking.

Cooking works for me! Especially if there is a lot of vegetables in need of chopping.
or I would smoke a joint

a good walk in fresh air, especially if you can get to a park or rural area with trees.

I like to chop wood. Smashing something with a big-ass maul really relieves my stress.

Go for a long walk on the hills / moors. Get some fresh air. It will also help you sleep.
Take the dogs with you if you have them, they will appreciate you for it.

@KasperPrip I wuld do that last thing but no money. And @JilltheTooth Smashing wood sounds fun lol

I once chopped down a tree and it took everything I had so I forgot about everything else.

@Trkreznor smoke an imaginary joint then, i do that sometimes when I feel i’ve must of been smoking too long – you just sit back in your finest couch and inhale for a while on a piece of paper (i guess it’s kind of like meditating). Good luck with that relieve.

A little love made with someone you love works wonders. Meditation is good. Deep breathing. Anything that distracts your mind from the source of the anxiety. The goal is to get involved with two different things at once. Your mind can’t really carry on attention with three things at once, so the other two tune our the anxiety source.

One good way of breathing is to do it through a harmonica. Slow in and out breaths. You get a droning sound, so you get both breathing and a drone to calm you down. Really effective.

Having routine in your life is a great stress reliever. Incorporate exercise and meditation into that routine and that will help too. Breathing exercises can be done whenever you’re feeling overloaded. Buy a book on positive thinking and set daily focus points for yourself. Cut down on the video games and spend time chilling out instead. Baths are great.

There’s a lot of great ideas here.

Along @wundayatta‘s lines, a hot bubble bath with a battery operated friend is helpful, too.

Exercise, bubble wrap and my husband. He’s multipupose! I mean, for my purposes!

wundayatta's avatar

Bubble wrap? My mind is bubbling… I mean boggling.

TrkReznor's avatar

@cak Haha bubble wrap?!? Who just has bubble wrap laying around?!? lmao

chyna's avatar

@TrkReznor I do. I have tons of bubble wrap.

TrkReznor's avatar

@chyna Wow that’s great, I totally want some now lol

@TrkReznor I always have bubble wrap around. I have no good reason for it to be there, but it just seems to multiply!

Start a hobby like working out or riding a bike or even play chess idk,do something that will take your mind off that stressful event and do something you will enjoy.

Knitting and punching a hole in the wall!Haha I was just kidding about that last one. But seriously knitting is so calming because you know that you are on your way to making a finished product.
