Could you please recommend me some good "pumpy" music for running?

Asked by shrubbery (10326points) December 15th, 2010

I need some new music because I want to start going for runs again, and I do far better when I have good music to listen to.

For example, songs like Hunting for Witches by Bloc Party, I’m Not Alone by Calvin Harris, Sandstorm by DaRude, Warp 1.9 by The Bloody Beetroots etc etc…

So really, songs that have a really good beat and lots of bass. The kinds of songs you would hear out in clubs even. I just really need to get pumped up! If I listen to a song and really feel like dancing, I can put that energy into running instead.

Preferably if you know a whole album or artist that is good that’d be great but single songs are lovely too.

The Run Lola Run soundtrack is great. I’m not a runner, but I would listen to RLR if I ran.

Par example

Also, upon further consideration, BT – Dreaming.

Pendulum – Witchcraft
Netsky – Iron Heart
The Chemical Brothers – Block Rockin’ Beats
Jack Beats – Get Down
Noisia – Split The Atom
Noisia – Stigma
The Prodigy – Voodoo People
Boys Noize – Starter
Chase And Status – Against All Odds

I think drum & bass is the best genre for running (lots of bass, around 170bpm) so this list is predominately that. And it’s all electronic.

I find that nearly anything by Marc A. Pullen works. It’s a little tricky to find, but I got a bit from downloading Sauerbraten , finding the music files there, and transcoding them from OGG to MP3. It’s fast, percussive, and gets the heartrate up.

Captain Jack has a few that I like, and Genie by Airbase is pretty cool, but for fast and hard, I have a soft spot for old-school Slayer. Seasons in the Abyss and War Ensemble are great, and Raining Blood doesn’t suck either. They give me a nice rush of adrenalin and testosterone that makes me want to go out and break shit.

There was also a CD put out by (of all people) Nissan a while back that had some good tracks It’s a little hard to find, but maybe you could search for the tracks and/or artists listed in that link. And then there is the old Mechwarrior 2 game. The CD plays in a regular player, so it isn’t hard to rip the music off of it, and some of it is pretty well-suited for this.

(If you don’t want to go through the hassle of digging and transcoding, PM me and I’ll get the files to you somehow.)

Little Bit of Riddim by Michael Franto and Spearhead. I play it over and over when I need extra motivation for running.

“Yanni Live at the Acropolis” over and over will take me from the start to the end of a full marathon. Fast moving “ZZ Top” music is good too. Hit it!

Well if you are just the kind of person who wants a beat to run to and don’t really care about the lyrics you could try anything by Daft Punk. Great upbeat music that, in my opinion, is perfect for running.

You probably have never heard of this artist, but his instrumental music is perfect for people who run. check out Youtube: Freddy King and Hideaway. his album is fantastic. he is an old rocker that still has plenty on the ball. you are gonna like it.
