Since today is my birthday, what should I expect for the next few years of my life?
I told my wife that my birthday cake would not hold all the candles. and, I was correct. So, there will only be 30 candles on my b-cake. I have made it okay, so far in my life, but what should I expect for the next few years? Question: what should a person, on their birthday be thankful for?

Happy Birthday, John. I have no idea what’s in store for you but I hope it is continued health, love and happiness.
Happy Birthday @john65pennington. Well time start catching up to you now and it will rush by faster than it used too. :) Good luck to you.
Happy Birthday John! Not to sound too over the top here, but having faced the very real possibilty in the past of not having any more Birthdays, be thankful that you can look forward to cake. Cake is life-affirming. I am grateful for every birthday cake.
and other stuff, too, of course!
Very Happy Birthday Wishes, John! I think taking the time to take stock, thinking about your life so far and what you have accomplished, what you are proud of, what you might have done differently is always important. Then I would reflect on the opportunities missed and see if any of them can fit into your life in the next year (even pick just one).
Happy Birthday John. Is this where you look at the bucket thing and make sure you can check them off? Take time to smell the roses and enjoy the sunsets?
What @Kayak8 said. It’s probably better than my “cake” advice.
Adirondackwannabe. i still have the bucket. i still carry it everyday. the question is, is it half empty or half full? i believe its half full. i am a very optimistic person. thanks for all the answers, everyone.
Another year to achieve your goals that you didnt achieve last year and more time to say the things that you should have said along time ago.
Happy birthday, John-boy! Revel in the realization that you’ve begun yet another year in your journey to… well, that’s the fun in life, isn’t? ... trying to find out what the “to” is.
Happy birthday, @john65pennington! Here’s what you have to look forward to: whatever the heck you want. Be happy that you’ve made it to this point, and look forward to doing whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t yet.
Make the best of it!
Happy birthday John. Reflect on the past, but don’t dwell in it, look forward to the journey ahead.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR JOHN! ENJOY YOUR HEALTH, YOUR SWEET WIFE’S BEAUTIFUL COMPANY AND LOVE. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF AND SEEK OUT PHYSICAL AND MENTAL BALANCE. NOTHING ELSE. YOU SOUND LIKE A FULL AND COMPLETE PERSON. MANY HAPPY RETURNS! TAKE MORE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES! ALL THE VERY BEST TO YOU AND YOURS.
Happy birthday, @john65pennington! With luck, you will continue to enjoy your love affair with your wife and your children.
Be happy for all that you have accomplished.
What a blessing it is to have such good friends on Fluther.
You should expect a lot more birthdays! :-/
And lot’s more cake, don’t lesson the candles, increase the size of the cake…. Every year on this earth is a year to celebrate, for imagine how much more good you can do for still being here!!! ;-)
Have a great day @john65pennington it’s yours to celebrate, so just get on with it…
Hau’oli la hanau e @john65pennington . That’s “Happy Birthday.”
Expect the things you most desire and perhaps they will come to you. Expect the worst, and you won’t be disappointed.
1) Happy Birthday!
2) You can expect more of the same, plus a few surprises.
I’ll need 62 candles on my next one, if I want to do it up right, but that’s disallowed by our local fire codes. Any birthday I get to is a recognition of being tough enough to still be here. That’s always cause for celebration.
Happy Birthday, John! Age is a state of mind, and you’re forever young.
Happy Birthday. It is my birthday as well. Be thankful you made it to another birthday.
You’ll get your PSA checked and be thankful the result is low.
On your birthday you should be thankful for all you have accomplished, thankful for family, thankful for dreams of what is yet to come. Happy Birthday!
I just looked in my crystal ball and it said you will be happy every single day for the rest of your life. It’s up to you to make that come true. I’ll be 68 next month and I’m having 68 candles, even if they won’t all fit on the cake.
@YARNLADY – If they won’t all fit on one cake, you’ll just have to have two ;)
Life is a gift. Enjoy yours as long as you can.
Happy birthday John!
The future isn’t pizza and fairy tales. The best you can do is just focus on where you are today, and remember your blessings!
Enjoy your day!
@john65pennington—Of course you can get your candles on the cake! Buy the number candles and look at all the room you have left to make more memories. Enjoy what you have, your life and family. Look on the past, fondly and look forward with excitement.
Happy Birthday!
