Is it okay to start Nuvaring this late?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) December 16th, 2010

I started my period yesterday on Wednesday. I was going to get birth control today but it was closed earlier than I thought. I work early tomorrow so I don’t have time to get it before it closes. It’ll be open Monday and by then it’ll be 5 days after my period

I hear that you can start Nuvaring the day of your period or on the 5th day of your period but not a day later…

Problem is, my period only lasts 4 days long…not 5. Is it okay to insert it on Monday still?

Of course I’ll be calling them tomorrow to be sure, but I just feel like I need an answer now

I always put mine in on a Sunday (or Monday) and take it out on a Sunday. I get my period the same Wednesday every month, and it doesn’t last too long, so by Sunday I can put the new ring in. I don’t know if that helps you at all. Your best bet is to call the pharmacy tomorrow morning and speak with someone there. Also, check out NuvaRing’s site.

I am not sure about the timing here, but I wanted to throw up a word of caution on this product. My wife had never had any health issues before and been on oral contraceptives and then switched. She developed blood clots and then a pulmonary embolism. There are legal ad’s running about “side effects” from it as well. Just so you are aware.

I’ve been on the ring for almost 2 years now and I like it. Thanks for the warning though, but I guess there’s always side effects with all birth controls and affects people differently. By the way, I called and they said even though my period stops the 4th day I can put it in on the 5th days anyways.

I was told that you can start it at any time in your cycle as long as you then use it properly and keep it in for the three weeks.
