How did Captain Beefheart impact on your life?
I just read the sad news that Don Van Vliet otherwise known as Captain Beefheart has died at the age of 69. What are your memories of the man, his music or his art?

Cptn. Beefy just added another layer to the musical smorgasbord I was consuming back in that day. I was and still am a huge Frank Zappa fan and when Bongo Fury came out there was this in your face vocalist called Captain Beefheart who was an amazing contrast to the big hitters of the year like ABBA, Springstein, Queen, Bowie and Donna Summer! A true non-conformist who was fearless behind the microphone.
In 1959, the Drifter’s released a song that started with, “Bomp bomp- there goes my baby, movin’ on, down the line”.
7 years later the Captain came out with, “Bomp bomp, a diddly womp!”.
Thanks for completing the sentence, Captain!
His keyboard player is with Bruce Hornsby…...
