Do you ever feel like you're trapped in the society you live in?
As a United States citizen, I have to admit that there is a certain disdain associated with trying to rationalize the way we live in our society.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but under the current model to success it is necessary to educate yourself so that you can get the job to make the money to buy the things to impress the people that make you happy. Certainly there is much more to it than that, but that is just the gist of it.
To what end though? What is the goal of society other than self sustainability? Does anyone else feel that their lives are apart of a meaningless chain of consumption?

Yes, ever since my starship crashed here on your backwater planet a few hundred years ago, I’ve been waiting patiently for you humans to develop the technology to repair it so I can go home…
I often think I was transported from an alternate universe where people actually act in their own best interest the majority of the time, and I’m apparently stuck here.
The title of this question basically sums up my situation.
Back to the woods I go, and some day I just won’t return.
Well, I take a different approach.
I educate myself because I value education for its own sake and also so I can get the job I want which happens to make good money which I will spend on crap that I enjoy. The people that make me happy will be impressed with me anyway.
Somewhat, but not for the same reasons. On what you said, I completely agree with @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard (GA).
My issue is more that I feel trapped by ignorance, bigotry, and religion’s dominance in the world. You’d think that would be done with by now, but I guess it’ll take another millennium…
I used to… now its society thats trapped with me… muhha… but I’m learning to get along
I do feel trapped sometimes but for other reasons. I get what you’re saying, though. But, since you’re living and here anyway, you must make choices to make your life better; if you’re unable to, find happiness in connections with people.
