Why do I always feel weak when I am sick?
I currently have a really bad cold, and I was carrying some things up the stairs. When I got to the top, I had to sit and breathe for a minute before I could keep going, even though I normally wouldn’t have any trouble at all. After making a few trips carrying things upstairs, I was completely exhausted. As I pondered this, I realized that I am always ridiculously weak when I am sick. What causes this?

Your body is busy doing its best to fight off your illness and using all its energy working toward that goal. Don’t overexert yourself; chill out and watch a movie or something, or better yet, go back to bed.
Right, as @Seelix says.
All of your bodies energy is going towards healing itself, and, especially if you have a fever, the bodies way of fighting an invasive infection.
Don’t fight it, rest, relax, and let it be.
Hope you feel better soon! :-)
I’m just getting over a heavy bout of the flu virus myself, body blowing hot ‘N’ cold, dizzy spells, aches ,pains, involuntary nasal fluid dribbles, coughing, sneezing, ya get the picture!? I came home early from my job mid week, I couldn’t take anymore. I went to bed for almost two days I was beat.. Take some anti-flu meds & head to bed & try to sleep it off or at least the worst of it,, as I say I’m getting over mine but my head & sinus’s feel like they’re full of cotton wool still! :-/
Also, if you have any congestion, your lungs aren’t passing along the oxygen well.
Take your body’s advice, and give it a rest.
So you’ll lie down and stop trying to do anything but get well. There are things to help you get well faster, but the first one is to slow down and take care of yourself. You know the routine.
Thanks, guys. I rested as much as I could, but we were also remodeling. After a few nights with nearly 10 hours of sleep, I’m doing much better. :)
I feel like this question cursed me. I was down with the flu yesterday, and am still recovering.
