I usually believe that the users are being truthful, but the last time this question came up it was because a user was tricking us with a fake life story. I doubt it is worth while to most people to simply make up false identities for Fluther. What would be the point?
On the internet overall, I suspect a great deal of the blogs and facebook stuff is false.
I do my very best not to simply “believe.” If something is knowable or at least understandable then I do my best to research it and understand it and know it to the best of my ability and to the extent that the subject in question can be known. There are, of course, fields where my capacity to understand is limited but I am fairly intelligent, reasonably well educated and not entirely lacking in critical thinking skills so I do my best to navigate my way around it all.

Here I believe the answers when it has an answer that repeats itself in another persons answer. On the internet I believe alot of information from trustworthy sites.
In general I trust in people, believe they are genuine… unless, or until I find out differently.
Generally, I believe those on Fluther. Although I was fooled by the person @YARNLADY mentioned who created a false life story that was very detailed and very consistent.
The Internet in general? Not so much except for trusted, known sources.
I would hope to believe 98% of the questions and answers on Fluther. But, you also have to consider the person that is asking or answering a question.
On the internet, i do not trust anyone, except my family and close friends.
@Simone_De_Beauvoir He might have been crazy thus causing him to make it all up, but he made it all up.
I like to think that the people on Fluther who are asking questions and looking for advice are honest. Maybe they pretend the situation is happening to a friend or acquaintance, but other than that, I answer as though it’s a genuine plea.
Here, I believe nearly all of it. On the Internet generally I am a bit fussy about the sites I visit but those I visit are those I trust.
I’ve never really had an occasion to distrust anything I’ve come across from other Jellies inputs so I believe most of what I see here on Fluther. As far as the Internet itself is concerned, there are some sites that I trust but many others that I steer clear of or question the validity of the material there.
I rarely find facts on blogs or comment lists, it’s all opinion. so it’s not false or true, but often misguided. (Don’t y’all know I’m right?) *<(:-)~
I believe absolutely everything I read on the internet.
Go ahead, ask for my bank information. As long as you have a reasonably good explanation why you need it, I don’t see why I shouldn’t give it to you.
I believe most of the things I read here on Fluther. There are some things that come up and I think “no way is that true” and it usually turns out to be a troll and is gone shortly after. As far as other places on the internet, it depends on the site. I have some sites I trust to give me accurate information. Other sites, if I real something interesting to me, I’ll do further research to see if it’s accurate or not.
Generally I believe what people write here unless it’s someone I don’t “know”. I consider the source. There are a few people here who I’d believe no matter how outlandish the comment. Come on! Who would aruge with anything @Jeruba.said? If she says my gerunds are purple then I’ll go right out an buy purple socks to match.
I don’t believe much of anything I can’t verify. I try to take people at their word. I take it all with a grain of salt.
If it’s a blog, I don’t accept any of it.
@Dutchess_III even if it’s a cooking blog? I read those all the time.
@Kardamom No…I’m thinking more of political blogs, I guess. (How can you lie in a cooking blog?!:)
Well i suppose with fluther there is no reason for anyone to lie to extreams. I mean, If there isnt anything to be gained then why lie?
@noodle_poodle Some people have a serious problem about lying. They’ll lie even when there is no reason to….
@Dutchess_III yes I suppose I have heard of that…tho I have to admit I thought that it was quite rare so I tend to discount it…I wonder how many people do lie frequently just “because”
I figure most people are being truthful, anonimity is cool like that. I didn’t catch on if anyone had made up a false identity/life or whatever but I don’t see the point of it unless the person is mentally ill.
When I was a member of another social site then I had the incredible experience to actually meet several people in person I’d only previously interacted with online and not one of them was different in person than how they had portrayed themselves. I know I can’t expect that of all my online “friendships” but I think I can be safe in assuming most will be.
I tend to agree with most people posting above; anonymous people interested in this site wouldn’t really gain anything (except maybe whatever it is trolls feel they GAIN) from not giving an answer that, even if not completely true, is honest.
That being said, fact checking and confirmation is always a good justification for adding something into my mental filing cabinet.
I may or may not think that something that I have read is correct or wrong but I BELIEVE in nothing.
I would say %85 here on Fluther.
On Fluther…it depends on who is posting, in all honesty. Many on here I trust in posting valid information, and many have valid viewpoints. Whether I agree with the viewpoints doesn’t make a difference for those that post or relate to good information – there are a few, in fact, that I fundamentally disagree with but have very good information backing up their perspectives. There are a few, however, that after time I’ve come to dismiss in terms of viewpoints regardless of information, as the skewed nature of information that they both present and cite to demonstrates agenda as opposed to critical thinking.
When it comes to belief generally, I believe pretty much anything that seems reasonable until proven otherwise – but before I will take anything I see on the web, Fluther included, and make assertions regarding it on the web, I’ll attempt to verify for myself from a couple of sources.
Half of what I hear and none of… *Wait, that doesn’t transfer well onto the net does it? Hmmm. Well, you know what I mean basically, not much but I always want to try to and I always hope I am able to, but truth is…
“You can’t always trust the people you want to.”
