What little thing made you smile today?

Asked by Seelix (14957points) December 20th, 2010

I just ran across the street to the corner store, and on my way back up I had a lovely conversation with a four-year-old girl about whether she went to the beach yesterday, and whether she saw shee-shells there. She didn’t, but she did see Rachel today.

I put this up on Facebook.

My Mom made one of those ceramic Christmas trees with the colored bulbs (that you would put in all the tiny holes around the tree) and she would bring it out every year. I loved that damn thing. I would chill out on the couch when I was little, with the lights off and the only thing that was on was that little tree. Made me happy.

I need to find one of those trees.

People kept posting that had one and that they wanted to give it to me. Made me smile and cry like a baby.

Ahhh the cutest old man walking down the street I live on. It just put the biggest smile on my face.

An acquaintance told me I’m his favorite girl in the world… next to his mom. I thought it was sweet.

A screech owl stuck his head of out the bird box in out woods. His tufts made him look like a kitten with pointy ears.

I got back in touch with a good friend that I’ve not spoken to in a while. That was nice.

The rain stopped just as I pulled out of the driveway to go to the post office, and didn’t start again until I was turning onto my own street, an hour later. I did not get one drop on me.

The dog was curled up into a little ball and my daughter tucked her in with a blanket because she was worried about her being cold.

A woman showed her appreciation by smiling and graciously saying “Thank-you” when I opened the door for her. These days, a man sometimes doesn’t get that sort of response from women anymore. I was pleasantly surprised. :)

After I showed my Zoo photos to a friend of mine, she asked me if I’d ever heard of a Sugar Glider. I said no so she got out her ipad and showed me. They’re little marsupials from Australia that can “fly” in a manner that is similar to the way in which flying squirrels move from tree top to tree top.

Here is a picture of a Sugar Glider and here’s another picture of one in flight

My pizza bagel bites that I had for lunch. They always make me smile.

SO just texted to say he bought real firewood and marshmallows so we could get cozy before going outside later to watch an eclipse. He remembered me mentioning it last night. I think this is big stuff.

Sunshine. Even though it was cold as heck, the Sun put a smile on my face:-)

My SO went away this weekend to visit his father. I was alone for the weekend until he came back this morning; he woke me up with a kiss on the cheek.

Little things like that are nice. :)

Everyday my dog makes me smile whenever he curls up next to me and makes little sigh noises in his sleep if I slightly move.

I substitute taught in kindergarten today. One little boy kept coming up and hugging me. Then, when the whole class was walking down the hall in line and I was next to him, he whispered, “I love you.” So wonderful!

@lucillelucillelucille Those are nice birds. Once saw a whole flock of them around my mountain ash berry tree in late fall. They love eating the red berries from the tree.

I asked the checker at the super market if she was cold because her station was near the constantly opening and closing front door. She laughed and said, “No, because I have hot flashes and it feels good.” I said that I was teaching when I went through that and was always putting on and taking off a sweater while I taught. She said,“I know YOU! StonyBrook School!” She told me her name, which I recognized. I looked at her face and I could see the child I vaguely remembered. Then she told me she was a grandmother already.

Finding out that one of my Fluther friends sent me a Christmas card :)

I was feeling kind of down this morning, but when I got to work a big Christmas present was sitting in my chair. It was from our receptionist who I am friendly with. It’s a large crackled glass ginger jar with an elaborate bronze top and it’s lovely. She said she saw it at the store and immediately said “That’s Joan!” She’s right too, because it’s exactly my style, but what made me smile was the kind thought that went into doing that for me.

@sliceswiththings. I used to work at an elementary school. It was things like that that made it the best job ever.

@Jude – I love how the second dog kinda wants to try it, but has second thoughts once it gets going.

The dog I am looking after who is riddled with anxiety issues was actually playing with a squeaky toy today. I was so pleased to see her finally relaxed enough to play.

Kardamom's avatar

@Jude I loved the dog video! I’ve passed it on to a bunch of friends and relatives.

@Leanne1986 How come the doggy has so much anxiety? That hurts my heart. I’m glad she had a good time with her squeaky toy.

I’ve been going to a lot of medical appointments lately, and it has been sad to see children waiting to get x-rays. However, today, I couldn’t help but smile big when a same-sex guy couple walked into the waiting room with their cute little 6-month-old son. All seemed healthy, so I assume they were there for routine tests. The adorable part was watching the dads dote on their son, play with him, and take pictures with their iPhone.

ParaParaYukiko's avatar

@prolificus That sounds adorable. :)

I just got back from seeing The Nutcracker ballet with my SO. It was so fantastic. The costumes, the choreography, the sets, the dancing, the holiday spirit… it was pretty magical.

Upon waking up and looking at our Christmas tree, I smiled. It was something small, but heartfelt.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@Kardamom I don’t know what happened to her to make her this way. Her current owner has had her for about a year and before that she came from a rescue centre so, who knows?! She’s great with people she knows and trusts but man, you have to earn that trust. She’s staying with me while her owner is on holiday over Christmas and she is my new best friend. I will miss her terribly when she goes home.

Kardamom's avatar

@Leanne1986 Yeah, those poor pups who have been in rescue centers. You never know what kind of horrible life they had before they were found. I bet this doggy will miss you when her owners come back from holiday.

I baby sit of couple of my friend’s pets regularly and I spoil them silly when I’m there.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@Kardamom I think I will have to demand visiting rights when she goes home!

Jeruba's avatar

This is silly, but it made me smile.

I like the doggy sledding, @Jude!
